    Class 11 nj shore towns

I know a lot of shoretowns only hire you originally as a Class 1 and if they like you they send you to the academy.

For a few reasons im sure most people would understand, i would like to attempt to be offered a Class 11 position, do you know what towns offer it? and I am having trouble finding APPS, i only found Avalon PD so far

    thank you

And last year agencies were not laying off cops left and right. Since then, there are hundreds of unemployed cops from Trenton, Newark and other places, who are police officers out of work. Guys they can hire part time to come in and do the job. Guys who have passed an academy and done the job.....aka- no risk of failure with a kid who has no experience and they have to wait weeks to finish training and then field train.

I don't belive in sugar coating anything or having false hope. I don't want you to sit around and wait for something that in all likelihood, is not going to happen. You need to adapt, adjust and come up with another plan.

Yeah youre right but I feel/hear that people are moving more towards the special route because it is cheaper (not that I agree with it and I feel about for full timers). As well as they need people, and not many older people apply because this is only a part time gig so it might work out.

And Idk if it counts for anything, but I have 230 hours over the last year interning with City Of Newburgh PD as well as did Under Alcohol Compliance multiple times with them.

I believe class I and class II differs in training and that class II SLEOs can carry firearms, but don't quote me on that... I never actually went for a jersey job.

OP: there are also departments in DE and MD if you're willing to move that hire seasonal officers. Some have different policies on what they do and how they are armed than others.

Believe it or not, save for a few agencies many will train candidates as Class II's right off the bat. Even crazier Full-time cops for the most part cannot be hired as class II's. It is a ridiculous system which I imagine was originally intended to protect those with full certs from getting the shaft with the terrible pay. Almost every agency at the Jersey shore is still hiring. Class II's cannot be self-sponsored and must already be employed by an agency to enter the academy. Separate municipal budgets are passed specifically for the increased summer force. My department will most likely be hiring 15-20 for next summer. The majority never working as Class I's. Although JoeyD is on target the field is tighter than previous years, with so few departments hiring full-time many officers are returning for additional summers as they are unable to find permanent employment.

Class I's =limited authority. Approx 80 hours of training, can arrest for Disorderly persons(misdemeanors) and traffic offenses. Carries everything except a firearm. Typically does meter enforcement and crowd control.

Class II's= Full authority/functions as a regular police officer while on duty(no authority while off-duty), undergoes somewhere around 400-500 hours of training. Carries a firearm.

No suprise NJ is this messed up. My town requires I have to use their leaf bags. But the town office which sells them is open Monday and Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm. How is the working man supposed to get them without taking a day off? I went to a town hall meeting and suggested they let the two agencies who run on volunteers sell them at a set price for profit to fund their programs and thus anyone could them from the animal shelter, volunteer ambulance, senior center, etc.... whihc ar eopen on nights and weekends. They laughed me out.

I got a job without having residency, but it might depend on the department. I'm not sure if it made them more or less likely to hire me- they said they appreciated the dedication to drive 5 hours away for a seasonal job. Mine sort of equates to a NJ class II position in that it's full police powers/armed, but I think that might be the exception. You can PM me if you want, I know one department that has been looking for qualified people the last couple of years.

Residency for class II is a non-issue. Many recruits come from PA, De, and even worked with a guy from the New England area.

JoeyD I hear ya, as a lifelong NJ resident I cant make sense of this place. I still find it hilarious that I had to wait two months to purchase my glock 30, as it takes a while for the permit's issuing authority to conduct my background. Did I mention it was the same agency I work for and provided me with my glock 21?! Ahhh the dirty jerz

    <---- Not a Cop.

Walk into gun shop. Choose firearm that strikes my fancy. Show the guy at the counter my concealed weapons permit. Pay for firearm that struck my fancy. Go home with new firearm in tow.

New Jersey really, really sucks dude. Henry County Police and the Sheriffs Dept are hiring. I'm willing

to put a good word in for you.
