Man dies after being tazered by police.

That was the headline in the local paper the other day. Funny how you can word something and get the people riled up.

York City PD ( not who I work for) made a traffic stop for an illegal turn around 3:30 pm. The car pulls over and the passenger bails. The driver stays put. A backup officer chases the fleeing passenger on foot and fires at him with his tazer. I am unsure if it hit him or not as the story just said the tazer was " ineffective ."

The officer catches up to the guy and tries to arrest him. The male resists arrest and is " drive stunned". They are able to get him into custody and he became unrepsonsive. They end up doing CPR on him and he dies within the hour.

The REST of the story is that he had multiple warrants. He also had asthma so severe ( according to his wife) that he couldn't work. So he RUNS from the police and resists arrest.

I guess he ran himself right into an asthma attack and now they try to blame the PD for tazing him.

We had an almost identical situation here a couple of years ago. Guy with asthma ran from the police after a traffic stop, tazed and died. Even the liberal media here didn't come across as terribly sympathetic to him so it didn't get much coverage after the first day.

They have agenda against Tasers. My theory is they write the headline like that so organizations can find stats through Lexus-Nexus.

My theory on why the don't like tasers is they don't create enough injuries after use of force applications and they aren't as good video as baton strikes or pepper spray. They want every police use of force to look like Rodney King arrest.

I was partnered up with an ex NYPD cop who used walk a beat in Brooklyn. He taught me a lot about how to use a nightstick that they never taught in the academy. Unfortunately, I never learned to twirl it and bounce it off a sidewalk like he did. It was entertaining just to watch him with his....

I carried an ASP even as a detective. Maybe I couldn't cause as much pain with it as a taser, but I could definitely bring tears to some big men's eyes with it.

All that is becoming a forgotten art and it's a shame.

You should also carry one of those battery operated misting fans. When it dries you can offer them a nice refreshing mist to cool his face. In fact every sallie port entrance should have misters in case someone with dried OC comes in.

Here's an idea: impregnate dried OC spray into all the spit hoods. They spit, it activates. Give them a warning though. Most won't be able to resist then.

But a TASER will likely work on a greater number of people than OC...

but you have to go through them one at a time. OC can be applied to the whole family. Then tase the one that stops puking first.
