I posted a while back that I had applied at my city PD, but was not hired due to not having POST (no budget to train, they get plenty of applicants that are certified). I applied at the local tech school for the LE training course, but there are not enough people for a night class, and no way to make the day class work around my job.
So fast forward two years, and I'm going to try again. This time, there are openings at the university PD where I currently work in IT. They are a full service PD, not rent-a-cops.
I spoke with the Major over the patrol division whom I know from some leadership classes we've taken together at work. I've also been an active volunteer firefighter with my county for over a year and I'm hoping that having the county fire chief as a reference will help.
So, we shall see! I am very excited but very nervous. This is a huge career change but one I have been dreaming of my whole life. Everything has aligned again financially and I am at a good place in my job to transition without leaving them hanging on any projects, so it seems to be the time to do it.
