    Neighbor's Loud Muffler on Truck

    Hello,

My neighbor recently purchased a used pick up truck, and it has a loud muffler problem and exhaust system doesn't smell right either.

The loud muffler is really loud and pretty much a noise violation. Last weekend he ran his truck in his yard from 10 am to 11pm, constantly running it. The fumes are really bad and give me a headache. Sometimes if my window is down they get inside my place and it is awful. Can I call the police on him for these issues and get them to issue him some type of verbal warning or ticket?

This isn't the first time with noise violations from his place. I've had to call my landlord twice as he was allowing his teenager son play loud music til 3 am and not correcting the son. He was also allowing the son to ride a riding lawnmower up and down my street, and it was quiet loud. I called the landlord and they took care of these issues but the guy works for them and does maintenance work so they don't act like they believe me when I do call. I didn't want to call a 3rd time as I am sure they won't believe me about the loud muffler and the exhaust problem he has.

Can anyone give me any advice on handling this problem? I am thinking about moving at the first of the year as just want a better neighbors, and a bigger place. Thanks.

It would help if you gave your state. In general there is usually laws and/or noise oridinances which cover these things...

Better yet, call your local police station and ask to talk to someone about it. A lot of cities and towns have noise ordinances that are in effect between 7 am and 10 pm.
