We are actually pretty lucky in Arizona avoiding natural disasters like the tornadoes and floods our Brothers and Sisters are facing, but this one has everyone's attention.
Wallow Fire Scorches Over 300,000 Acres; Still Uncontained, Christian News
The Apache County Sheriff asked for help from neighboring agencies to assist his taxed agency covering the Wallow Fire in northern Arizona.
Our sheriff readily agreed to assist and asked for two teams of volunteers to go for two weeks to provide supplemental law enforcement coverage protecting evacuated homes and businesses.
Our staff was informed they would be working 12 on, 12 off and that they may have to make camp in military tents. They were advised to bring their own sleeping bags and camel packs if they had them and we would be working on supplying those who didn't have them. Our DRMO guy was checking with the military to see what kind of additional supplies we could possibly get our hands on, post haste, for the critical incident.
Within an hour of the notice going out, we had more volunteers than we needed.
This is very promising from our young troops who sometimes make us scratch our heads with the "What's in for me?" attitude that some, not all, portray.
I am genuinely impressed with the caliber of the young troops, most who are married with young kids, who are stepping up to the plate and living the core value of Service Before Self.
