Yesterday at work I heard this one unfolding but before it finished Comms split the channel to isolate it so that it did not congest the entire District.

Saw this in the local paper today.

Ironically (or maybe deliberately so) there was an article in the same paper that related to the recent murder of Senior Constable Damian LEEDING.

The article was on about page 6 and was in relation to a guy who was running for local government who got the sack after he tweeted that

"can the qld public... be assured that police won't take a shoot first ask question (sic) later excuse once the machine gets turned off."

He making reference that it was publicised that Damian LEEDING was on a life support machine after being shot in the head and it was to be turned off. He was insinuating that Police would use his death as an excuse to shoot first ask questions later....

Well in the same paper Police got two pages showing that this was not a concern and even though the bad guy was from the same area where LEEDING got shot, and it would have been a great opportunity to "take revenge", but despite that the Police remained professional throughout and did what the community expected...THEIR JOB...unlike most politicians!!

One thing I learned over the years that local police departments are effective ONLY because a lot of young men and women like the job and are willing to do in spite of their command and politicians. I learned early on that any politician would sell me in a heartbeat to buy a vote and most command would do the same to protect or enhance their careers.

It was good to see everyone in ballistic vest (are they the knife vests or bullet resistant) and have pistols. Now you have to lobby for rifles . Awesome work.

So is it just me or do people just stand around when guns come out? The first pic has some guy with his hands up and he is being ignored by police. Why isn't he looking for cover? Does it hurt less if you get shot with your hands up? And the photographer seems to just be hanging out too?

Pictures can be deceiving but did Constable Crossfire get a new nickname at the debrief?. Anyone leaving autographed "Constable Crossfire" 8x10 glossy's and if not, why not?

I keep forgetting you guys drive on the wrong side and the bad guy is in the passenger side of the car where you guys put the steering for some reason.

The vests are ballistic...with ceramic plates. Some of the stations have rifles, Mini 14's, but hardly anyone is qualified...I have just put in for it. They are talking about going to AR's but no doubt that will be after a few years of "trials' because God forbid we just learnt from other areas...my dept has to trial everything themselves...at great cost and time...despite what has already been proven by a million other depts at first. I always said the only thing better than learning by your mistakes is be learning from other people's...but I guess my dept never heard that!

The guy with his hands up is one of the SGT's. I think he was yelling at the bad guy, :Sir, please raise your hands where I can see them, if you don't mind...Sir." but knowing Panda, I doubt it was that polite. In fact I was surprised he didn't go over and round house kick the guy out of the car.

I know it all went down very quick but from things I have heard there were numerous members of the public out watching and in one of the photos you can see bystanders just watching.

That has been discussed. I think the angle of the pic does play some part.
