    why all the hoopla?

why is it that anytime anything happens to a cop or fireman etc, its a huge ordeal on the news? recently a nearby officer was vacationing in tennessee and a bad storm came through and he died. for days on end it was "officer dies ..." if the same thing happened to me, 1) it wouldnt make news, 2) if it did, they wouldnt say forlift supervisor dies.
also for funerals there is a parade of firetrucks and/or police cars to show the honor of the dead. why cant i have a parade of forklifts? sounds silly doesnt it? i think its silly to pay 4 bucks a gallon in each of those public vehicles.
its never a good thing when anyone dies, i just dont understand why all the hoopla?

Does your job entail risking your life for the public? Ours and fire fighters do.

my answer to that is anything can be twisted that way. im in the trucking industry, so yes if i get hit with a forklift and die, there were be some local businesses not getting their supplies on time. i totally get that the job risks are different, but thats what YOU signed up for. no one put a gun to your head and made you be a cop. how does the parade of vehicles and tax payer dollars being literally burnt up, signify anything worthwhile?? if your comrades really care, shouldnt they show up in their personal vehicles?
as far as the gu yin tennesee, the end of his life was tragic, no doubt, but it had nothing to do wiht him being a cop, so why keep talkign about it, see my point?

Yeah, I see it and it doesn't fly with me or the public. You should probably find another forum to whine about that.

Your jealous... we get it. You want to be the center of attention. It's ok.

..as for you "understanding", I think it would be a waste of time trying to help you. You see, with your obvious predisposition, you are not asking the question to "understand". Rather, you are complaining. How pathetic.

I would assume he doesn't have a job where written communication is involved.

Right. Because a monumental percentage of your tax dollars are funding police funerals.

Maybe you can complain to your local government officials and cut a deal where LE services will be withdrawn from you in exchange for keeping the pocket change. Then, you could just call your forklift buddies to the rescue when you need assistance in an emergency situation. Problem solved!

I guess " those guys" that signed up to go in the military should be treated exactly the same as a forklift driver ?? I mean they KNEW the risks when they enlisted , nobody held a gun to their head to join up , right ?

But aren't you GLAD that there are poeple who ARE willing to take that risk so you DON'T have to ??!!

Like police officers / EMT's and firefighters.

    I Want One Two!

You seem to have a problem with any display of respect when it comes to remembering those that died in the line of protecting you and your family from harm. This is a respect that anyone normally gets for risking his or her life performing these functions. No, nobody held a gun to my head to become a police officer. I did it because I wanted to. However I bet there are many people who were in the trucking industry that died in the armed services so that this country can be free. These people are given the respect they have earned on Memorial Day. What are you doing today on Memorial Day. Having a party, got a day off, having a couple of beers. Well, just think off all the trucking industry guys that died in war and then go out and look at all the parades they have for them today. Stop whining join the service maybe you'll understand. Maybe then you also can get you own parade with flashing lights and firetrucks.

So you come to a pro police forum to complain that police are treated with honor and respect when they fall. Hmmmmm Maybe if you did something substantial with your life you would also be honored and respected. You know like running towards gunfire to put yourself between the bad guys and the those that are running away from gun fire. Some officer's do this for around $30,000 a year.
How about running into a burning building when everyone else is running away from it. Like the firefighters did on 9/11.

Seems to me like a forklift driver that just sits back and whines will never get much respect or honor. Aside from for your job do something that will benefit those that need help and maybe, just maybe, someone will honor and respect you. You know like serve your community, visit some elderly people in the nursing home, volunteer at a soup kitchen. But then again if the only reason you are going to be doing those things is so you'll get a parade more than likely you won't get one.

You're right. No one made us sign up. That's what makes the sacrafice so much more meaningful when it happens.

As to why the media pays attention; this is not "realnewsreporters.net" so we can't really answer as to why they do that.

As has been previously mentioned, if you don't get it now, nothing we say here will help you to get it.

I will also point out that two of the threads you have started have been borderline trolling in nature (one essentially asking if all cops are corrupt, and one asking why we feel it's a big deal when one of us gives everything in the line of duty).

Choose your next topics carefully, or you will jeopardize your posting privileges here.
