    Question Duty boot policy

Just wondering what your department's policy is on duty boots. I know some depts. Say that they must be able to have a polished toe. Others may describe the bight of the boot.

I have to buy a pair for my academy and was just wanting to get a consensus abot what most depts will allow. I have been looking hard at both the Bates GX8 and also the Under Armour Valsetz. The Bates is more traditional, while the Valsetz is more athletic shoe fitting.

    Thanks for the input.

    What does your department say?

I'm not a LEO but there can be lots of requirements other than looks/fit. Example: No safety toe allowed or safety toe required, min 6" boot, etc, etc,

If you are getting put through the academy by a department they should give you a list of equipment needed and requirements for some equipment. If they don't you should ask somebody on the deparment what the policy is on boots and other equipment you have questions on.

If you are going through an academy then they more thank likely will specify exactly what you need. I would assume it's going to be something that can be polished on the toe. Be a little proactive and call and ask before you look like an idiot in class.

Our only requirement is a polished toe.

Polished toe is the only requirement I have had: I personally like the 6" side zip Converse boot (with Doc Schol's sport gel inserts). They are easy on/off, the gel insert makes them so you can stand around on scene security/traffic control for hours and they perform great in a foot pursuit (light, traction and flex). I bought a pair (8") in sage green just so I could wear them at drill...

I love my bates Defenders. Great boot, breaks in right away and you can get a great polish on them. They have held upt great over the two years I've had them. When the time comes i'll replace them with another pair of Bates.

My department requires a high mirror shine on the toe of the boot.
