Somebody asked me a random question today that I did not know the answer to. Is there a "standard cuff" used by most agencies?
What would be the most popular cuff you've come across?

I buy my own. I prefer Peerless.

I use issue cuffs, but I always ask for (and I think our department only issues) Smith & Wesson cuffs. If I did buy my own, I'd get those.

Not a LEO and I can't speak to what is used, but there is an NIJ standard for handcuffs. I think I saw a list of handcuffs that have met the standard. The local dept here issues S&W.

Mine may furnish them now, but we used to have to buy our own and were required to have either S&W or Peerless.

Academy issue is S&W, but we have several manufacturers and models that we can get. I, personally, don't like the Peerless. The ones that have had had issues.

That should be 90% of the cuffs.

On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL
We're issued 1x SaffLock cuffs and that's all we can use... All of Queensland Police use these.
Though i must say that using a hinged cuff is good for pain compliance.

The Cuffs are new, they will Stretch!!!
I work security and was an explorer for 7.5 years, I have always carried Hiatt's and have loved them since I was 14. However, I have also used S&W (thats what the department issued the officers) and I like them as well (just not as much). I have moved toward a S&W hinged cuff over the last year (started working LP in a violent area) and as QldCop stated, they are GREAT for pain compliance. I carry both sets (chain and hinged) at work because most times, people are stealing in pairs, and I don't want to have to fight with someone and not have cuffs for them. Ok, end of rant :D.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled programing.
