    The Chase

Had my scanner on Sat. a.m. and one of the LEO's was trying to stop a black Escalade. I am unsure of his initial reason to stop. Anyway, it turned into about a five minute chase through town - he was calling it until another few cars joined in - the car finally hit a curb and lost the front left tire which lead to him finally being captured, I heard the sirens, then the stop and the officer ordering him out of the vehicle (very loudly) LOL. My adrenalin was surging .... I have never heard one, what an awesome job they did stopping him and calling it - I knew just where they were.

Just wondered if any LEOs here recalled their "first time" or memorable chases they would care to share?

I chased a drunk firefighter for about 5 miles. She had a bac of .36. She was driving in the ditch on the wrong side of the road. Luckily it was early in the morning and the streets were quiet. It's a rural area so I had dispatch put local Rescue on standby as I knew it would end in a wreck.

She pulled over because her fire pager went off. She was going to respond to the call.

33 miles in 19 minuntes , passing tractor trailers on the shoulder , later bailing from the car while it was slowly rolling. Foot chase off into a field at 0300. Both BG's were captured but my LT-1 Caprice ( one of the BEST cruisers ever) aged a little that night.

It had to be 1971 at about 2200 hours on a road that has two way traffic with a newly painted double yellow line. I was a new cop and they had me driving a Cushman. The Cushman is a scooter with a compartment you sit inside to keep the rain off you. It is not very steady and sharp turns will turn you over like a turtle. The only thing keeping you from completely turning over was this gigantic red light (bubble gum machine) that they put on top of this thing. One day, I would swear, I am going to turn the red light on and the Cushman is going to spin around. Anyway, I was on patrol checking glass etc. when I observe this drunk driver going down the above mentioned road at a whopping 5 miles an hour. The driver was a female and I tried to stop her by honking my annoying pitched beep beep for a horn and turning on the red light. She continued going on back and forth over the double line oblivious to me being behind her. I had to call for a real police car and he had a problem getting her to pull over. This slow speed pursuit went on for more than a mile and down side streets. When we did get her pulled over she came out of the car like nothing was wrong dressed in a beautiful full length evening gown a clutching a small bag. She was placed under arrest. This was my first pursuit. My Sergeant went nuts when he heard over the air my Cushman number "in pursuit". This is what that thing looks like but with a light.
