Just a waiting game, did it kill anyone else?

    So lets see....

    Application: Done
    Invited for the written: Done
    Wait 6 weeks
Invited for the Panel Interview: Done
    Wait 4 weeks
    Invited to start backgound: Done
    Wait 4 MONTHS

I am dying to get out on the street and the waiting game for them to come back with a clean background (which they will cause I haven't so much has had a drop of alcohol, cigarette, or any drug not prescribed to me) is killing me. What did/do those of you do who are waiting to hear back from departments do to pass the time and keep your mind off of things? I have been looking over state statutes, studying up on the constitutional issues regarding law enforcement, search and seizure, use of force, PC, ect. I just want to make sure I am sharp when I get out into the field.

I know I am going to be a rookie, and probably going to have a few "oh Sh!t" moments. But I am "___" this close to getting on the department of my dreams. Background then medical and the Police and Fire Commission interview (which I am told by officers in this department that if you make to the PFC interview, you have the job) and then they put me through the academy, where I know I will learn a TON. But being an explorer for 7 years has helped me a TON and I hope to give back to the explorer program that has given me so much.

Sorry just thought I would share the good news.

I applied for various dept's over a 2 year period before I got hired.

If you are a good candidate , have scored / tested well and they have an opening.....they will call.

It's called "hurry up and wait," and it happens on the job too. I can remember the feeling of wanting the application process to end so I could get the job - it sucks, I know - but it is what is is and everyone who's a cop has been through it (some of us who've worked for multiple agencies have gone through it each time as well). Suck it up and press on.

I am hoping I get the call and that I will be able rpg start its just the waiting sucks to see if I am the one they want. I know I have to be patient, and I am trying to be I am just ready to move on from a job into a career.

I tested #1 on my local Police Departments exam and interview 3 times, and they never hired me. Granted, I had a little hiccup in my background, but that one little thing kept me from working at my (then) dream department. To get to the agency where I am now, I had to wait 2 1/2 years before I got hired on.

The waiting sux, that's for sure. But don't give up. If you really and truly want to do this job, hang in there. The reward at the end of the wait is absolutely worth it!
