    25 years ago today

I was hired as a police officer with my current PD.

My starting pay was $15,687.50 I got 5 vac days. We had early 1980's Dodge Diplomats with anemic 318 V8's that couldn't catch a riding lawn mower. 3 channel mobil radios , no cell phones, no computers , had a typewriter to do reports and complaints back at the office.

We could hand write most reports. The basic traffic ticket was $27.50. If we were to call into the 911 center, we knew where ALL of the many pay phones were located. Especially the ones with a long cord so you didn't have to get out of your car in bad weather.

I rode with someone for about 3 weeks and than was on my own for about another 3 weeks BEFORE I went to the academy. I am sure it must have been fun ??

    Things have somewhat changed.

    My...how things have changed.

25 years ago Sarge was playing Little Marine in the back yard throwing dirt clods at the neighbor kid from a fortified position behind a dirt mound.

And yes, that was NOT as an adult!! The Sarge was 11.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.

25 years ago today I was finishing up training after almost a year in the Marine Corps, getting ready to ship out to my first real duty station.

Twenty five years ago my two boys were toddlers and I was working on a chemical dependency unit.

All that aside, I don't know about McSap but reading how some, ummmm....most of you were either not born or not out of Pampers is getting a little depressing. LOL

I had been a detective/sergeant for 4 years with 15 years on my department. In fact, that was the year that I'd been transfered to drugs from homicide for calling my lieutenant (the chief's brother in law) a fool in retaliation for him saying I had an abrasive personality! Just imagine the gall he had.

The thing that hit me the hardest was when I investigated the first police shooting where the cop who had done the shooting hadn't been born when I was hired......
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Wow, I really feel old. Twenty-five years ago I already had 17 years on the job and was looking forward to retirement at 20 years. I passed that and stayed another 10 for thirty. I remember when we checked out a license plate it took forever. They had to go to the card file and look it up. Congratulations on 25 years it really is a big thing to go that long. On my job it was a twenty year retirement and I remember the relief when I hit that 20. It was like a ton of bricks off my back. How much longer are you going to give it?
