In Mass is it illegal to leave a car running with 12-14 year olds inside?? Is this a law?? Thanks Joe

Legal in PA as long as the kids are 6 years or older.

If they are under 6 , then it is ok as long as the car is within sight of the parent/guardian. SO mom could go in the 7-11 and leave her little ones in the car as long as she can see them from inside the store.

She cant go clothes shopping at Walmart though.

It should be illegal nationwide. Too many bad things can happen to little ones left alone in that situation.

I agree. Not sure why it is OK to leave a 6 yr in the car but not a 5 yr old ??

I dont make the laws , I just enforce them.

In Oregon, 10 years is the minimum age you can leave a child unattended. I often left my kids in the car when they were 12 and above and I just wanted to run into a store for something. If I'd tried to leave them in the car at that age for very long, they would have got out of the car, found me and started giving me a hard time.

I've always been against this... and just recently my ten year old nephew was left in the car and a man approached it and tried to kidnap him... my son is seven and I don't think I would ever leave him in the car unattended to many crazy people out there but then again i fall into the category of overprotective mother too. at least I get told this all the time but I would rather be overly cautious then not enough too many parents just don't pay attention.

A lot depends on the area you're in and the personality of the kids. My daughters would have locked the doors the instant anyone they didn't know came near the vehicle. There are, of course areas of the city I wouldn't leave them in the car for an instant. In fact, there are areas where I wouldn't want to sit in the car....

At our local service station I will leave my 4 year old in the car while I run in and pay. Only if there is noone else in there (no line up) and I am only ever about 3 metres from the car. I make sure the car is not running, I have the keys in my hand, and it is not hot.

There is one other service station I will leave my son in the car for, but that again depends on if there is a line up, and at that one, I will only leave him in there if the dog is in the car with him....and I pity the fool who tried to get in the car with Buddy in there.

Other than that, I get him out regardless of how much of a hassle it is. Too many cars get stolen with kids in them.

And if I a car is reported (especialy in the heat) with a child in it, then it is my duty to let air in the car....and that might just mean breaking every window with my baton to get a good air flow in....same applies for dogs in distress.

i used to have mixed dog I rescued her, after bringing her home I thought great what will i call her ( she was a older dog) so i started calling the cat , " here kitty kitty" and she came running and sat real pretty so the name stuck, she was the smartest dog ever.... she would literally give you five.. once my nephew was about to be attacked by a neighbors rottweiler well kitty took care of him she rolled the other dog like three times and pinned him on the ground it's amazing what animals will do for those they love and how smart they are. Magic is definitely my baby he follows me everywhere if i'm sitting he's trying to lay across my lap if i walk he is right behind me, the other day i was cleaning the kennel and the gate was wide open he stayed inside the kennel with me until I was finished now that is dedication, he is a Great dane solid black with white chest and white socks beautiful dog inside and out...
