Mobile isn't too far (45 min, I think) from Gulf Shores, which has some nice Spring Break-style beaches, but it's probably too cold for that. If you wanted a couple more months Mardi Gras is pretty big down there. The main areas to stay out of are the ghettos surrounding downtown.

Mobile is kinda a rough town, but I like it. They have great seafood!

I haven't been to any of the Mobile attractions, but they do have a WWII ship anchored up over there. I think it is the USS Alabama. If you drive about 2 hours west there's New Orleans with some awesome resturants and the Frecnh Quarter (I always go armed, it's only three or four blocks from the projects). An hour or so west of Mobile is Biloxi with a bunch of casinos, but not much else. That is the extent of my knowledge of attractions in the area.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.
Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.
Hear ya go, Ft Morgan, Mobile Bay Ferry from Ft Morgan to Dauphin Island--Family Fun the fort is really old, when I was a kid used to play hide and seek there. Also check out Bellingrath Garden's. http://www.bellingrath.org/events.html If you are downtown there is Ft Conde and after that if it is around lunchtime stop by Winchells Oyster house! Welcome to Wintzell's Oyster House
