    Searched bags.

So today my buddies and I, after some Trick Or Treating, went to a 7/11 to refill on drinks, don't worry not that kind. So we saw a local Sheriff's car parked in a parking spot and I thought it was cool since I was the only one in the group that was interested in LEO's. So we put our sacks of candy in front of the 7/11, which were pillow covers and walked inside to get some nice, cold beverages. So we all paid and left, as we were walking out we saw the Sheriff get out of the cruiser and walk over to our bags with a smile, he put on his gloves and searched the bags without question or even talking. We just stood there watching him search each and every bag. I know you guys don't second guess fellow LEO's on here, and I'm not saying you should. I'm just wondering why he would do this. Was it because of some law where he was forced to? Was it because I had some shaving cream on me? Or was it because he thought we had drugs or something else? What's your opinion as to why he searched us? I know it's just his job and he doesn't make the rules and I respect that, I'm not complaining, and I'm not whining. I'm just asking a question. Thanks.

If it happned as you said, it ain't right. Especially without asking for consent, which he needed (or a search warrant). But I wasn't there so my opinion is worthless.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

Totality of the circumstances is going to be the answer, and , as has been stated, we weren't there. Did the deputy see you put the pillowcases there, or did he look up from some paperwork to see some out-of-place bags that weren't there when he last looked (with you already in the store)?

Was he already searching when you exited the store, or did you and he approach the bags at the same time?

He did see us put the pillow cases there, and he approached the bags as we were walking out. I know this because as I put the bags down I saw him look up.

When people have contraband and dont want to get caught with it, they usually do one of three things - toss/get rid of it, move far away from it, or hide/secrete/ingest it. Thats if they dont flat out try to flee. Getting rid of it or moving away from it are examples of disassociation...
