Either legalize it OR decide that it is a real drug, worth taking seriously, and not give it it's own status of "illegal, but all that can happen is a slight fine therefore no one will even enforce the law against it, but still illegal none the less."

Someone on here from Arizona pointed out to me once that possession of any amount is a felony there. Fine. That state has decided that it actually is a problem and they have made it a real crime. At least they take seriously what they ban.

I will say that I come down on the side of legalization between the two. As has been pointed out, alcohol has probably done more harm than weed. And what about the low life stoners that will suck up public money that some love to reference? Haven't you seen plenty of low life alcoholics who lie and steal and live off of public assistance? I have. Sorry, that's my opinion. And no, I'm not some stoner.

Send your departmental info to one of the police mods. They'll assign it to someone to contact your department and verify you. Welcome, by the way.

    Prop 19 did NOT pass.

I voted no on this half-brained idea and I am sure glad it didn't pass.

While I dont like the way MJ has been treated as a " half drug " , we certainly dont need another legal way for people to get wasted.

We will never get all of the states to agree on how to treat it but as long as it is illegal is fine with me.

Some KNUCKLEHEAD in PA fought and won a Disorderly Conduct charge ( summary citation) because poss of MJ isn't DC 9 ( really ?? ) and then sued the PD and won. ( Fine was about $375. )

So now , EVERYONE with a pipe or a small amount gets the M3 charge which is a criminal offense( prints-photos) much more in court costs and includes a 6 month loss of drivers license.

I bet it goes back on the ballot in two years and passes next time. From what I read, a lot of young voters didn't vote this year. And it wasn't overwhelmingly defeated this time. No was 54% compared to yes at 46%. Enough dopers wake up long enough to vote, it'll be law.

Oregon defeated a measure to create marijuana "pharmacies". There would have been an estimated 274 throughout the state if it had passed. But unlike California, the medical board here does do some monitoring of doctors who prescribe weed. After the medical marijuana law passed, a couple of doctors lost their licenses for prostituting prescriptions. One osteopath had written several thousand over a 5 year period. From what I read, California pays no attention to that at all.

We've had the less than an ounce be only a violation since the 70's. In fact, that kid that was the pitcher for the Giants, Linchcum was cited and fined here for possession not that long ago.

But if history repeats itself, less than 5 years after California passes it, Oregon will. We're generally a year or two behind California's bad habits.

I wouldn't doubt that Prop 19 comes back and passes.

I hate the idea of not only being a cop and dealing with such stupidity but also being a civilian and watching people buy marijuana like they're buying milk or something. I can appreciate that even though marijuana would be legal if the prop passed the substance would be treated the way alcohol is treated along with some of the laws imposed on cigarettes. It will piss me off if the prop allows a civilian to walk down the street smoking a joint. That just makes the public intoxication charge up for grabs on the next election.

IMO it's a bad idea all around. When I'm a cop and this stupidness passes I'll just bit my lip and enforce the laws but I'm still going to give some "education" to any knucklehead I come across baked off his rocker cause he was smoking that stuff all day. I really hope that someone figures out how to do a field test for THC levels so cops can arrest people for being irresponsible.
