Topless woman wielding meat cleaver threatens police
Police were dispatched to a Southeast Portland home early Sunday morning after neighbors reported a naked woman outside shouting nonsense, Portland Police said.
Officers Michael Filbert and Brent Maxey arrived to the 8100 block of Southeast Mill and spoke with a neighbor who said 61-year-old Phyllis Ann Lasich was acting very strange and had pushed out the window screen from her second floor apartment, said Pete Simpson, a police spokesman.
The officers knocked on Lasich's door hoping to return the screen window, but were instead greeted by Lasich, who was holding a meat cleaver and screaming "Die *Expletive!" slashing the cleaver towards officer Filbert, Simpson said.
Filbert was able to avoid the cleaver, which hit him between his radio hold and left hip.
Lasich, who was topless, continued screaming at the officers that she would kill them. Eventually she backed away from the door, laid on the ground and complied with officers.
"Thank God you are here!" Lasich shouted.
"They've been coming to kill me all day!"
Lasich was not charged with a crime but was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where she was placed on a hold.
