    LEO careers locally

Im working on setting up a ride along, and as such im saving the majority of my questions for that time but i have one that i think could be answered well here.

At this point in my life, i am married, have a house, and no kids (yet). Moving is almost certainly out of the question. What type of LEO careers are available to someone in my position outside of being a police officer?

Not many. If you're not willing to leave your house, that limits you (practically speaking with the cost it will have to you on traveling to and from work each day) the city you live in and surrounding cities, and the county you live in and other counties. If you want to work for a state agency, you have to be prepared for them to move you anywhere in the state. If you want to work for a federal agency, you have to be prepared for them to move you anywhere in the country (even some po-dunk iceburg in Alaska).

You could look into being a probation officer, either with community corrections or with the state.

Technically, depending on the jurisdiction and state statutes, probation officers are not always LEOs. In some jurisidictions, they are officers of the court without arrest/LE authority. Not saying it's a bad job, but truth be told, whether it's a LEO job depends on their authority in a given area.

Not being too sure where he is from, I figured it would be a good option to look into. It is definitely something to consider, the hours are great and you don't move around!
