I have a book of letters written ordinary soldiers during to Civil War to their loved ones. It's amazing to me that these people, of which few had more than a grade school education wrote so eloquently. Occasionally, they misspelled a word here and there, but for the most part their spelling was better than a lot of people who post in Ask A Cop. And their grammar was impeccable.

When I was in Ireland in 1998, I loved reading the Irish Times. The reporters there still had appreciation for the written language. American reporters are to writting as Gallo is to wine.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

I have to say I've never believed driving to be a right. To me its a privilege that WAY too many people take for granted.

I can't speak on behalf of the lack of grammatical skill in my generation. All I know is that my FTO always takes a red pen to my reports and with each week the amount of ink decreases...

I'd consider that a huge accomplishment if it were me, Chevy

At work I edit a lot of folks' stuff myself, and I'd be thrilled to have to use less and less red ink on someone Your FTO is secretly proud of ya I'm sure. And I'm also sure you're never gonna know it, lol.

I can't tell you how many WTF moments I've had reading reports written by cops you assumed to have more than a 3rd grade education. Even some of the Sgts reviewing the reports must either be lazy or morons. Towards the end, I was sending back reports not to the officer, but to the Sgt who approved it. I would usually have some sarcastic remark like, "Since you approved this, you obviously knew what this person was trying to say. Would you please call me at ******** and explain it to me." I don't know if they're just stupid or don't realize we actually use these reports to investigate crimes.....

There should be an age limit. Its the same as smoking, the government prohibits you not to smoke (or at least buy tobacco) until your 19 (in NS.) after that its YOUR choice, the same should go for seatbelts, under 19 required. I wear mine all the time, a seatbelt has saved my hide more then once. Its also a $215 fine LOL
