    STLtoday - Associated Press News
NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says a suspicious vehicle in Times Square "did indeed contain an explosive device."

Police found the device in the smoking Nissan Pathfinder on Saturday evening. They then cleared the streets of tourists and dismantled it.

The mayor spoke at a news conference early Sunday along with Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

Kelly says the car contained three propane tanks, consumer-grade fireworks, two filled 5-gallon gasoline containers, and two clocks with batteries, electrical wire and other components. He says a black metal box resembling a gun locker was also recovered.

Authorities say a Connecticut license plate on the vehicle did not match up. Police are looking for additional surveillance video.

NEW YORK (AP) -- A Pakistani man believed to be the driver of an SUV used as a car bomb in a failed terror attack on Times Square was taken into custody early Tuesday by federal and local police officials while trying to leave the country, a law enforcement official said.

The suspect, Faisal Shahzad, was identified by customs agents at John F. Kennedy International Airport and was stopped before boarding an Emirates airlines flight to Dubai, according to officials who spoke to The Associated Press early Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation. He had recently returned from a five-month trip to Pakistan, where he had a wife

He's apparently a U.S. citizen who was naturalized 5 months ago. Is it possible to revoke his citizenship and send him to guantanamo?

The part I find interesting was this:
He was in custody after being hauled off a Dubai-bound plane at Kennedy Airport that he had been able to board Monday night despite being placed on the federal "no-fly" list.
Do you think he got on the plane before they got him on the no-fly list or was it missed completely?

Was on list. They didn't recognize his name until plane pulled from gate.

Was on way to JFK when he made the one way reservation over the phone and paid cash for the ticket at the terminal.

I'm not a security genius but if your name is on the no-fly list and you make a reservation on the way to the airport, it's one-way to the middle east and you pay cash, I'm thinking the security computer should burst into flames to get their attention.

Remember, these are the same people that strip search little old ladies and US Military personnel in uniform, but let Arab males pass without a second look.

A retired deputy I know from around here is in his late 60's, white, wears jeans with suspenders and flannel shirts. He can't get past TSA on a bet without being shaken down.

As far as blame, the finger pointing has already started. Republicans are blaming the feds and the feds are blaming the airlines.

Even though I currently work for a major airline, I almost never fly because of this TSA nonsense & crap. I don't want to get started on them, but I seem to have had those problems in the past.
Please know that I pray for each of you daily. Be very careful out there & BE SAFE.
