    Happenings in my agency

This happened the other night while I was on duty, but in a different precinct / district. The deputy in this is a buddy of mine too. Great example of how a "routine" call (abandoned vehicle) can turn in to something as bad as an officer losing his gun and that goes with it:

The two deputies and the teen suffered minor injuries in the fracas.

I'm glad the cops are okay. I'll reserve comment on specifically what happened, but I think he's probably critically evaluating his mindset and use of force options on teenagers, now. Being disarmed of your TASER and then your duty weapon is no bueno - especially when it's done by a 14 year old kid.

The paper said, "The News Journal does not generally identify teenage suspects unless they are charged as adults." You mean to tell me this kid steals 2 vehicles, assaults a cop, resists arrest twice, disarms a cop of his TASER and his duty weapon, points a gun a 2 cops and doesn't get charged as an adult? What's required in FL for him to get big boy charges??
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.

I don't know why they didn't mention it in this story, but he's definitely being tried as an adult. In fact, he headed to adult court today, story link here.

I too will reserve comment, mainly because I know Deputy Minor and I realize he must be kicking himself over and over again. It would be impossible to say what I would have done in that situation, as I wasn't. But I am going to attempt to contact him and let him know I, personally, am supporting him in any way possible.

    Update to the situation:

Looks like the Sheriff is backing the two deputies saying they did nothing wrong, did just what they were supposed to, but it didn't work. Click here for a link to a local television news story.

Turd father watches turd stepson wrestle with the deputy and does nothing to help, and then turd father watches as turd stepson gets deputies gun and point it at the deputy before driving off, and then turd father has the balls to tell the deputy, "you better go get my truck back, he took my truck."

Turds raise turds and then wonder why their neighborhood is hell.

I totally agree with what you're saying (as well as all the "corrections" beneath the original comment!) but in turd fathers (minimal) defense, he was locked in the rear of the deputies car... Although even if he wasn't, I'm sure it would have gone down just about the same.

Glad to hear the Sheriff is supporting the two deputies Marinepilot. Hopefully that 14 year old gets what he deserves and a stupid jury doesn't screw it up.

Glad he's okay. Also glad he didn't have to kill a 14 year old. I'm not sure what is more damaging to the deputy's psyche: having to pull the trigger on someone he's obviously not prepared to pull the trigger on, or not being being prepared to pull the trigger and having the tables turned into his death. Either way, I'm glad he doesn't have the worst case scenario consequences of either of those choices and he went home. I hope he went home and hugged his wife and kids and is taking some time off.

How big was this kid? I also have to wonder how much press about "using tasers on children" lately played on some of his decision making. "14 year old TASER'd by police" would have been the story if he were able to deploy it. Those stories and their impact on policy are going to get someone killed. Glad it wasn't this deputy.
