If I am just tootling along - yes it would be jarring to have a man with a gun run up to me.

If I am popping wheelies, driving recklessly, and generally making a fool of myself, in the back of my mind I have to expect some type of repercussions, to perhaps include an armed response.

Cops have a certain amount of time after the fact that they can issue tickets. Certain offenses the cop might have up to 30 days to issuce a citation, others may be up to 15 days. That is how it works for the cops in my state and I'm pretty sure I recall officers on here saying the similar things.

Well since there was a marked unit behind him trying to pull him over, I don't find it strange that when he was finally stopped, he had a gun pointed at him.

I agree with Curt on this one.

Call me crazy but I didn't think the officer did anything wrong.

Police Officers do not tend to make pointless stops when they are in plain clothes unless they feel life is in danger. A lot of recent cases have caused a lot of cops to re-think getting involved in their off time. Most of the time Police Officers should be the best witness to a crime rather than get involved even if they are carrying their off duty gun. Most do not carry a RADIO or have means to asking for help nor do they have all the tools of the trade with them such as OC, or ASP.

The officer had his weapon out for a very small amount of time and did not point it at the suspect. Pulling your weapon is a level of force on the force continuum and you do not have to use it. Using your weapon is lethal force, pulling it is not. Uses of force basic concepts are taught in the military, and the police academy.

There's a marked unit behind him, I don't see lights or hear a siren... so how do we know the marked unit was trying to pull him over.

    Rlong,
Do you think...particularly with the # of states with CC permits etc, taht it might have been prudent for the officer in question to have identified himself as a LEO first, instead of last?

Identyfing yourself as a Police Officer is a must, but there was a marked cruiser in back of the guy. I really don’t think he thought he was being bikejacked or assaulted. After his actions on the bike I believe the Officer could have felt his life was in danger if the suspect decided to make a run for it. You can run someone down with the bike just like you can a car. Video recordings from new’s sites are not the raw feeds of what actually happened, we do not know what happened while the plain clothes officer was following the guy.

Yes I'm sure he was just eating his lunch on the roadside and the bike happened to pull over right in front of him.

I did not see in the video where the LE agency took the biker and treated him to a session of water boarding! But I'm sure it occurred! That's how they got him to confess to the felony!.

I figured it was jumper cables, easier to store in the trunk. <shrug> I always figured, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime... I earn a ticket, I own up to it.

btw Jr... what precisely are you trying to state or claim in regards to this question?

So you dont think they should have arrest powers off-duty but should still not be exempt from having unlawful video taken of them as a normal citizen would?
