i was curious if headlight lens tinting is illegal? i read a post on here earlier saying that as long as white light is projected at least 1000ft it is ok because i want to tint my lenses black and the paint is transparent but black. if my lights project the mentioned 1000ft will i be ok?

Its a NO NO in NYS. That said, California tends to be worse than any other state, so I'd say its a NO NO in CA also. You can't even have a RED Deflector shield on the front of your car or truck in Ca.

I'm personally "curious" why you wish to darken something that is there for light. So many in general want their cars looking cool it's ridiculous.
This also aggravates the hell out of anyone who may have to get anything usually frowned upon by LEO(such as any window film) for a ligitimate medical issue.
Save your money, and somewhere along the lines I believe we missed how a cobalt w/ film on the lenses will look identical to one that doesn't...(as they roll down the street on a flatbed).

This 'tint your lights' movement is an off-shoot of the 'tint light covers' movement of the 1990's. That one was found to be started by Natural Selection trying to restore balance to the gene pool. I'm guessing this is the same thing.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of learned people have conducted many thousands of tests on vehicle lighting. There have been many papers published on the effectiveness of different lights used in vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other notable organizations have recommended minimum lighting standards for states to follow; and, you, someone who knows nothing about lights wants to put some substance over the lense to make it look like a toy.

Suggestion: If you cannot accept the vehicle's design qualities and usefulness, do not bother to purchase it, drive it or modify it. Take public transportation!
Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence!

If you are in Maryland, I will give you a ticket for tinting your lights.

    Actual conversation with suspect
Suspect: Why am I under arrest?
    Me: For posession of CDS.
Suspect: Man, it wasn't CDS! It was E pills!

If at first you don't succeed. . .don't try skydiving!

Note: Any laws I quote or mention pertain to the state of Maryland unless noted otherwise.
