Drug laws are on the book for a reason whether you agree with them or not. Too many say it’s just weed but marijuana and other drugs are easily laced and ARE additive. Addictive substances both prescribed and non-prescribed narcotics destroy lives but more importantly the families that these people belong to. It is easy to say that it is a choice for the families of those who are involved in narcotics to turn their backs on those addicted.

I struggle how you can sit here and type out I smoke without considering the consequences of your actions. Do you really know what you are buying? Your local drug dealer is not a reliable source. Sherm Stick or another form of laced marijuana could kill you. If you want Friday with Ice Cube, Smokey discovers the hard way his joint was laced by Hector. The movie portrays this in an amusing manner, but it could end up much worse.

Creeker I would agree with you in a Criminal Justice class, Academy, or Police Department training session, but I had to find a way to relate. Friday is the perfect example of how drug use is poorly portrayed and dangers are not displayed to teenagers, their targeted demographic.

I am sorry, but I thought I explained why I used the movie “Friday” as an example. It is one of the few mass produced movies with an example of laced Marijuana. Creeker have you seen the movie? I figured it would be something that everyone from the 90’s could relate to.

Negative. I am not a child of the 90's. I was busy earning a living and couldn't afford cable back then.

    A) The Majority don't make the law, we live in a Republic not a Democracy.
    B) Yes you can justify breaking the law... it's called jury nullification.

Sorry, what part of my response did you consider "talking smack"? I said:
    A) I don't agree with the law.
    B) I think that changing the law in my favor requires legislative or judicial action.
In other words, I understand that the police enforce the law, and no one should have a problem with the police for doing their job.
Someone posted earlier they were surprised no "pro pot" people had chipped in, so I offered my opinion. I wasn't trying to disrespect anyone's view.

*It was a State's Rights issue but the distribution of votes was still unexpected to me.
I was refering to some of the stoners that I see posting. The ones that get promptly deleted. Not you, sorry if you took it that way.

No law is completely illogical, however that does not make it morally sound. We've definitely exhausted the the argument over whether it is excusable to break the law if you believe that it is morally wrong. Let's agree to disagree on this point before we both sound like a broken record.

I'm not sure if you are implying that marijuana is addictive. If you are, consider the DEA listing for marijuana withdraw symptoms "Occasional reports of insomnia, hyperactivity, decreased appetite".
Source: Drugs of Abuse Publication, Chart

I'm not by any means making that case that marijuana is harmless. I'm arguing that relative to other abused drugs it is far less destructive.

On your point that marijuana can be laced, I agree completely. Although it is extremely rare, I have heard stories of people receiving laced drugs. Most of these stories involved teenagers who decided it would be "funny" to slip their "friends" hard drugs.
I'm not going to write that I feel immune to this problem, however I will write that this issue is part of the reason I want to see marijuana legalized, taxed, and regulated.
If it were legal I would know:
    A) What additives it has
    B) What is the drug content.

This feels more like a judgment about me than an argument on the issue. I'm a college student, I take 18 credits/semester, and I support my recreational habits through hard work. My family is not in disparaging because I choose to smoke pot as an adult.

I talked about the laced part above, but the clip was funny so I'll probably rent the movie at some point.

wiww027 thank you for clearing things up, I'm trying to make sure that my comments on this issue are appropriate to this forum, so I was a bit worried someone was upset by them.

Creeker, I can't get into Andrew's head and tell you his motivations, I don't know him. I can say that he voluntarily served a jail sentance and is not a name you would nationally recognize. On the ouside looking in, those facts seem to counter your argument. However, I think civil disobedience is best used on more important issues.

Norm, thanks for bringing in some comic relief, even though you are poking fun at me, I can't help but laugh!

I think the reason why they come here is because for one, they think they can get away with it. Take for example that gang on Facebook who advertised their crimes. They didn't seem to realize they were giving away their location, and yet the Police busted them. Pot smokers rarely think about consequences, they just get up and go like an automatic switch. What's worse is that they believe it won't hurt them. But there have been several studies conducted to show that it has.

What I don't get is that most of these students are at an age where they should know better. It makes me wonder if they actually paid attention to the "Just Say No lectures." They probably didn't.
Stop whining about your life's woes. The soldier who fought for your freedom lost two arms and a leg. You don't hear him complaining.

The day someone makes a video game for the enjoyment of 'conquering the world' is the day I will roll on the floor laughing.
