    Texas inmate escapes with gun

Did anyone else hear about this? This guy had to be a magician or something! To think how many pat downs those guys go through at any given moment, this is very astonishing.

I don't know a lot about it other than he was cuffed to a wheel chair and apparently required one to go anywhere. I'm glad the jailers are ok, though I'm sure they needed a pants check themselves when it was over with.

I suspect a few possible scenarios: 1) gun was left in van previously by careless guard or other person and not searched or 2) inside help from staff or 3) weapon was fake fabricated from wheelchair parts.

1 is plausible but rare for gun to go missing like that without report. Could also be gun left in van by other detainee who didn't want to get caught with it.

2 is more likely and happens more frequently now that male/female guards are allowed to interact with female/male inmates. Interesting thing is that he left his weapon behind and took theirs. That gives great plausibility to the guards who said he was armed. Not sure why he would be interested in doing that. I'm not saying those guards are involved but someone else may have told him to leave that weapon so the guards wouldn't get in trouble.

3 is probably the most likely scenario and he left it behind because he knows it was useless. Until I see pic or model of firearm, I think this is most likely.

Either way, I feel sorry for those guards. They were probably grilled forever over that, and their records are marked up. Does underline the 'trust no one' and do your own pat down for officer safety..no matter where they are coming from.

I feel sorry for them in the same way I feel sorry for the lottery winner who ends up bankrupt. On the one hand it's sad that their careers are probably over. On the other hand they, went home to their families and lived after giving their firearms up to a lifer with violent history.

I'll feel sorry for them if this guy and their gun is used to abduct and rape some child like he's done his whole life. It would be a nightmare to know you contributed to that in any way.
