So, C of C. How's it going so far? When will they start discovering drones' bodies in the crannies of HQ?![]()

I eat those I lay waste to, so there is no evidence left behind.
Things are going well, thanks. I may also have another project coming under my purveyance that would be a coup for me, and it's something I've been working on on my own for 7 years, so I'll keep you posted.
Thanks. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to an old dog like me to see someone with your experience and insight in a job like that.
As I said in another post, the best my dept ever did was form some committees to advise the chief on vehicles, uniforms, etc., but we've never had any input on policy. Hang in there!

Lol....when I was a Lt., I had some input on policy. I advised my Capt. and Major that my unit was preparing a GJ indictment on the Chief Deputy and several others for receiving and concealing, continuing criminal enterprise and conspiracy to commit theft (and other felonies). 2 days later my units office was padlocked, files removed, 15 of 17 of my men were transferred to other divisions, and I was fired.
So much for policy input (in a dept. with no union, no civil service and no policy manual)!!![]()
Zoinks! WTF. Well, my dept is decent about at least listening to ideas. Then they
until we go away.
There are extremes both ways. When I left, our General Orders filled two volumes, each about 2' thick. It was virtually impossible to go through a shift and not violate something. And the sad thing was the majority of them were written by some office pogue who might have spent a whole year on the street. Most of it was written to cover the city's or the chief's respective ***, not assist anyone in the real job of police work.
When I started, the Manuel of Rules and Procedures was a little 4" X 6" loose leaf binder that was issued to everyone. Now only Sgts are issued one, but every patrol officer is expected to adhere to every goofy little rule in it.And as a Sgt., I was given at least two updates a week to replace a G.O. or add a new one......
I've read guys complaining about unions, but mine's a 10 and worth every dime of the dues we pay. The guys running it are all working cops, no professional union people, but we hire damn good attorneys to represent us in arbitration and in court. I couldn't imagine dealing with my old city without them. It was bad enough as it was.
In the late 70's when I was in vice, I busted a madam's operation that had the who's who in Portland in it. I have to give my dept credit, no one interfered with me one bit. But the DA went ape****. My job was never in jeopardy, but the case went away mysteriously. I left vice and my successor went after another one and the DDA went after him on the stand. The DA, of course was later a judge......

One of our projects is to reduce the same type of volume as you had. The Sup wants 30-40 simple and clear G.O.'s - policy only.
Theres nothing that a supervisor is responsible for that is ever "clear"
Just like CoC's rationale...
