After retiring from the state and hanging around the house a few months I was getting bored so when offered a job with a private detective Agency I accepted the offer. A retired FBI agent had started his own criminal investigation company hiring other retired agents and a few active and retired LEO's who specialized in the investigation of a specific crime.
After getting a private detective's license through the secretary of state's office I started working part of the SE district along with 3 other guys.
The pay was exceptionally good at that time, as when actively working an investigation and doing paper work it paid $45.00 an hour, driving your own vehicle at $.50 per mile and paying all meals and lodging when staying out of town over night.
It was a lot simpler than working a case as a real detective/investigator as after doing an investigation and determining it was of criminal origin I would turn my findings over to the local authorities and let them take it from there swearing out the warrant, discussing it with the DA and if a case developed I would testify as to my findings before a grand jury and if they returned a true bill then appear before a petit jury.
The company folded after a few years as the owner bit off more than he could chew, taking on too much territory by having agents in every state except Hawaii and Alaska.
