Good Morning
Today is Sunday, 07Jun08. I mention the date because yesterday was the 65th Anniversary of the landings at Normandy. Yesterday, our President Barack Obama commemorated the event by publicly speaking at Normandy. In this speech he mentioned, if only obliquely, the inherent values of freedon, sacrifice, and duty. But while he was giving this speech that praised the efforts of the men who fought, bled, and died for freedom from tyranny and oppression, anothe speech sat, taped, for release. In that speech, President Obama expressed his desire to further increase the power of the US government, this time taking control of healthcare. This propsed expansion of governmental control would join the governments increased power over banking and business.
I find the actions of our President to be despicable. As the anniversary of D-Day approaced, our President stood before a crowd in Egypt and, while directly speaking to the assembled crowd, also spoke to the Muslim people as a whole. While his intent I must only believe was noble, his words were not. Never once did he use the word 'terrorism', instead choosing the word 'extremism'. That's outrageous. Extremism is an ideology - a belief. Terrorism is a criminal action, and it's real. To refer to murderous criminals as "extremists' in an effort to assuage the sensibilities of a people that view their spouses as mere property is ludicrous and offensive to freedom loving people everywhere. Then, using the occasion of D-Day as a cover - a diversion - he releases another speech that runs contrary to everything those men on those beaches fought and died for.
Our nation is witnessing assualts against its way of life. Not only from foreign and dometic-grown terror but from our own government as well. Assaults aginst your liberty and freedom are being waged. As these assaults grow in scope and size, two things wil happen: LEO's will be required to ensure their enforcement, and people accross the nation will rebel. Again, as LEO's we will be required to deal with those people as well. The decision to act seems like a simple one. People violate the law or the law needs to be enforced, we do it. But the water becomes much less clear when the law itself is questionable. Law, as we know, is not infallible in its creation. We have seen enough court rulings handed down that are liberal in their intent and encompassing in their breadth. To look to the law, then, for affirmation of national principle cannot be assured.
My fear has been that laws based upon poor rulings which run contrary to our Constitution will be passed, and we as LEO's will be required to enforce them. The solution to this is simple: Don't fight the law, work to make sure that the law is never passed. That is what this group is about. We want to make sure that laws that call in to question Constitutional issues are not passed, and to that end we want to provide information for LEO's everywhere.
