In the day's of the founding father's the Church of England was very powerful and had influence over politics and they didn't want that and also didn't want politicians to get into religion. Hence the whole first amendment deal with religion.
Uh ok so George Washington is responsible for Thanksgiving.
And the Pilgrims were at Valley Forge.
I must point out to you that George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Hancock were born in Virginia, England, Virginia, and Massachusetts, respectively.
And if I may, does "Taxation without Representation" ring a bell?
Furthermore, the 1st Amendment states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Seems more than just religous issues up for grabs here.
