    MJ legalization in CA

A friend of mine who is an officer (I posted a thread a while back about my friend who gained employment as an officer, although he has smoked weed for years straight, and still does) told me that weed is technically legal in CA...he said that CA has small shops in which you can go inside and purchase weed to smoke. Does anyone know anything about this? I didn't believe him at first, but then I remembered that it's CA...everything seems to be very different there.

Are the shops only for medical users? I cannot believe the feds would allow a state to set up a weed shop...if so, the US will become the new Amsterdam.

From what I understand the shops are supposed to be for medical use only. No, the feds do not allow it.

What department does your friend work for? I find it hard to believe that the department would hire someone who "smoked for years" let alone let him smoke MJ as a active LEO.

Ok, that makes more sense. The way he was talking made it seem as though there was legal weed shops. Im sure his speech was influenced by his own "passion" for weed.

He works at a PD in Prince Georges County, MD. They didnt knowingly hire him with drug use...he lied.

There are about 5-6 "funky" smoke shops around where I live and a legit one "Tinder box" it's the only one that doesn't sell bongs and marijuana pipes.

The funky ones always have eviction notices on their doors pretty much every 2-3 months, they are close to the Police station and from what I heard through the grapevine a lot of arrests have been made around the area for weed and meth.

Just the other day the PD was dragging out of a motorhome - parked at a gas station, 5-6 strung out hippies then towed the motorhome back to hell (I hope) where it belonged.

I went to Northern California two years ago and while walking through a town, I noticed a glass-blowing shop with windows so people could watch from the sidewalk.
In the back was a big custom blown glass bong room. It wasn't like a big secret thing. And of course, I didn't buy anything.

I thought paraphernalia was illegal. How can they just be selling bongs? Is that what's legal?

This of course was the summer when I visited the Harmony Festival, and saw tons of hippies and saw 5 homeless men who had a dog that pulled a wagon of all their belongings.

    Everything is different in California.

Paraphernalia would not be illegal since you could smoke tabacco out out of it or just keep it as a collection/art item. Atleast that is to my understanding. As long as you dont use it for illegal uses than it is not illegal. But if there is any residue to it being used to smoke illegal drugs obviously that is when it becomes illegal as well.

From what I hear, just wait a little while, because "Ahhnoldt" is going to legalise it, then tax it.

Dummerdude, I wonder what town you went to when you came to Northern California. Sounds like my home town to be honest. They do not sell bongs for smoking pot but as water tobacco pipes. Thats how they get away with it, just like the glass pipes and all the other things they sell for idiots who touch the stuff.

They'er serveral places in California where you can buy for medical purposes. You are supposed to have a medical card to buy from them, and allowed limited amounts. But for couple of hundard bucks and any liberal doc anyone can get a card.

But if the DEA or one of the federal agencies catch you. They will put you in a federal prison.

Hints DEA Raids on Medical Marijuana Will End

Attorney General Holder was speaking at a press conference Wednesday about Operation XCellerator, a crackdown on Mexican drug cartels, when a reporter asked him about the DEA's stance on the raids. The reporter mentioned some raids that occurred right after the inauguration but before Holder's confirmation, then he asked Holder if he would continue the raids policy under his tenure.

Holder joked, "What the president said during the campaign, you will be surprised to know, will be consistent with what we will be doing here in law enforcement." After a bit of laughter, he repeated, "What he said during the campaign is now American policy."

Obama made it clear in the primaries that he supported states' rights to give out medical marijuana, and that he wanted the DEA out of the raiding game. That same position was taken by both John McCain and Hilary Clinton.

After Eric Holder's comments Wednesday, blogger Radical Russ on NORML, the National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws, wrote that people should mark down 2/25/09 as "the beginning of the end of adult marijuana prohibition."

The slow legalization of it, might actually be beneficial. If I can benefit from the tax money the same way we do from Tobacco then there's a potential for some nice tax dollars.

It'll also make finding a job easier if 50% of the people are drugged up all the time and I can show up with a fully functioning brain.
