MJ legalization in CA

Here is what I dont understand...lets say the govt grants each state their own authority to legalize weed, so therefor the state/county/city could earn money from taxing it. This is one way of making money.

OR

Continue on the path we are on, where the police bust weed users/dealers, and those people have to pay the fines incurred, which also gives the county money. For instance, someone I know got busted with weed for personal use, and he ended up paying $1,500 for his fines.

What is the difference? Both methods still bring money in? People will still grow it for themselves even if it is legal, so for those people, they wont be paying taxes on anything.

I will refer to my comments the other 67 times this has come up, including in this thread.

I am not bragging about anything. There is absolutely nothing to brag about in this circumstance. I am describing something that happened to someone I know in order to give an example of how fines from possession charges can also give a county money.

Mind you, this is someone I know, not a friend of mine or even an acquaintance.

I knew a Narc that messed up his hand on duty and they forced him out.

A couple of months later guess who gets busted doing a deal for a few kilos?

Arrgh... I forgot about that..... Yeah, we had a mess like that in the late 70's, some of narcs got into their job a lot too much.

Back on topic; what I was attempting to get at, was how possession charges also bring money in (not like you officers dont already know that).

This is why I laugh at the people who say that legalizing marijuana will bring in so much extra money for the states.

Ok, that makes more sense. The way he was talking made it seem as though there was legal weed shops. Im sure his speech was influenced by his own "passion" for weed.

He works at a PD in Prince Georges County, MD. They didnt knowingly hire him with drug use...he lied.

That's a tad bit disturbing.
