Win the fight at all costs.

There was an excellent piece on K9 Cops on Animal Planet tonight. The Officer and his K9 were in pursuit of a gang banger who was armed. The K9 catches up to the bad guy, but the bad guy manages to get away from him.

The bad guy then runs towards the Officer, who kicks him in the chest, but this causes the Officer to fall backwards, breaking his wrist. Instead of laying there waiting on his K9, the Officer rolls over and pistol whips the bad guy across the face! (Most excellent!!)

By this time, the K9 and the Officers back up have arrived and the bad guy was taken into custody. It was a very good piece.

ETA: It was Officer Ernst and K9 Buzz.

I saw that! I kept rewinding it and playing it over and over again. My wife was like, "ENOUGH ALREADY!" Did you notice that when the officer, the dog, and the cameraman got out of the squad car, the dog started to go after the camera man? :D Anyway, that's some good work there by the K9 cop and his partner. Excellent piece indeed!

Sounds epic. If anyone finds a link to a online vid please post it.T

I have always kind of wondered, on a show like COPS or a similar program, can/would the cameraman get out there and help the officer? I know there are probably some liability issues and they are probably told what to do in that kind of situation beforehand, but it still has me wondering...

He may be a camera man, but he is still a human being. If he feels the officer's life is in danger, I would hope that he would do anything and everything possible to help him.

    Me too.

I'm not too knowledgeable about laws or anything so this maybe just be what I've heard, but aren't there laws that require people to assist others with stuff like that? Like good faith laws?

Regardless of what any "law" says, if I see a cop (and thought this way BEFORE I became one) that needs help, I am helping him.

I've seen a couple of episodes of Cops where the cameraman helps an officer hold someone down.
There was also a thread that was recently started that said that if an officer tells some to help them they must help.

If a police officer is in a fight and a bystander physically able to assist fails to do so, and as a consequence the officer is further injured or killed, I would hope that the officer or his estate would prosecute or sue said bystander for that failure to act.

I have seen a couple of scenes from COPS where the cameraman would block a fleeing suspect from escaping. I have also seen some scenes from the older episodes where a struggle between a cop and a perp would ensue and the camera getting cut off, only to come back with the perp getting walked to the squad car. In that case, I would hope that the cameraman had put his camera down and helped out the cop with an extra pair of hands.

Yah, there are a few instances where the crew have gotten involved in assisting the officers they are filming. One of the more recent ones that comes to mind was in New Orleans where two officers weres struggling with a male suspect, when the suspect's friend starts to come over and try and get in the way. The cameraman pushes him back and later uses his foot to help hold the guy down when the officer takes him to the ground. So they do sometimes serve a purpose. However, they do get in the Officer's way when it comes to giving a little payback love tap to the suspects head lol

Human being or not, many (if not most) people just freeze and can't think of what to do next or go about their business when they see people in need of help. Too few actually act and do something to help.
