The COPS people seem to be a cut above the rest. I heard good things about them from the uniform people that worked with them.

They asked to go with me and my crew on a drug raid and I declined. I didn't want my and my peoples' faces all over national TV when we were working drugs. They went to the county, met John Bunnell and the rest is history, I guess..... But I was impressed with their professionalism when I talked to them. Although I categorically despise the press, I liked the cameramen and producer. I think they've done a lot for our image over the years.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Regardless of what any "law" says, if I see a cop (and thought this way BEFORE I became one) that needs help, I am helping him.

    Damn straight!

Unless there are different statutes on the books relating to law enforcement officers, a bystander has absolutely no duty to help someone in trouble. The Seinfeld episode lied. Seems kind of cold-hearted, but that's freedom for you. Republicans like to make laws out of morals, democrats like to make laws out of charity, but nobody has yet made it a duty to save someone in physical danger. At least not at common law.

Plus, you want to talk about liability? Some bystander hops in, cop is disoriented and gets his hand back on his weapon, sees the good Samaritan except he perceives the guy as an attacker, bang bang. Who's getting sued now? Or, even if the bystander hops into the fray and gets killed by the bad guy. You can't force anyone into danger. At least not since the last draft.
You've had your whole life to prepare for this moment. Why aren't you ready?

I was talking about a moral responsibility, not necessarily a legal one.

And I find your second paragraph to be quite unlikely.
