You might check with the school. A lot of colleges forbid firearms (except LEOs). I would imagine that this would supercede CCW laws. In Oregon, there are several places where people with CCW's can't carry, courthouses (not just federal) and some police stations, for example.

You might think about pepper spray. Although I don't carry a gun everytime I leave the house, I keep a can of that in one of the cup holders in my pickup. There's not many people that won't work on and it's general legal most places.

    +1

I would bet that the university has rules against CCW firearms. I know every college & University I've been too here in Texas does.

I also have to agree with retdetsgt on the whole, "what good would a gun have done you"?

If you would have had your gun what would you have done different?

I knew my expertise in not carrying a firearm would come in handy one day!

If he is any sort of criminal he knows that angering or targeting those in LE is a recipe for disaster. The fact that he has saw you may have actually ruined one of his favourite places. You can feed in the fact that he frequents there to your local intelligence people & also discreetly inform your college security (if that is allowed)

Yeah, he pointed them out to me. The conversation was very friendly, but I was concerned that he might have been feeling me out.

My concern was that he might have partners-in-crime that would be interested in hurting me, given that organized nature of his alleged activities.

Have you ever done anything to him? Most crooks don't want to bring attention to themselves unless they think they have a good reason.

I think I understand what you mean. Last year, on a ride along, I helped serve a warrant on a kid I had a class with, one who ridiculed me about being an explorer. And I was in the front seat of the car that took him to juvy. So now he's back in school this year and gives me a death glare every time he passes me.

He's a psycho looking person so his stares are pretty damn unnerving.

Yes, at some level I was afraid of him. Since he now probably knows that I am a student at the university, he could easily cause issues for me.

His warrant was, from my understanding, some pretty high-level stuff. I guess since he is now back on the street, it must not have been so bad. I didn't know his warrant status for sure at the time, only that I had been instructed to call in if I ever saw him.

No, I certainly didn't want to get into a confrontation with him, but you can never quite know what the bad guy is thinking or what he intends to do.
I understand your concern, and I'm glad you're safe.

In the event this individual meant to do you harm, you felt you would have the security of your weapon-understandable.
We all know ourselves better than anyone, and if you felt unsafe from this individual...you most likely were correct in picking up on such a vibe.
