First off let me say thank you to the men and women of law enforcement who keep our streets safe by putting their lives on the line ever day. I am pretty pro-LE and my best buddy is a cop.
Now let me say I am a casual Marijuana smoker. That is the only law I knowingly break and I am willing to face the consequences of my actions. Other than that I am a stand up guy, I am young, married, have a good job and have a CCW (I only smoke at home so being in possession of pot and my carry piece is a none issue). I would gladly help a cop out in a physical altercation if I thought he needed help.
I am by no means they typical stereotypical pot head. I smoke rarely and very few people in my life know I do, I am not at all ashamed of it but it is still illegal and technically I am a criminal. I also am starting to get active on the legislation front and I keep running into the same thing.
All over the country law enforcement agencies from federal down almost always oppose any kind of pot related legislation, everything from decriminalization on down to medical use. I am really at a loss to why. I mean decriminalization would make your lives a lot easier. I have done a few ride a longs and I know that the volume of paperwork involved in booking an individual in jail is much bigger than a simple ticket. The only argument I have ever heard against medical that made any sense was from a county sheriff who said that it would create extra work for the officers to verify if someone was in fact licensed to be a medical user. That argument really doesn't hold water because almost all states require you to carry a card from the state saying its ok.
So far the only thinks I keep hearing are vague "for the children" type arguments that gun banners have been using forever. Now I don't want to turn this into a pot legalization debate, I know you guys don't make the laws but I would really like to understand this irrational fear.
