My first few months on we had a bad wreck with an idiot that liked to try to get us to chase him.

He T-boned a dumptruck going triple digits. I didn't know before then that a human body could make an indent in the bed of a dump truck.

They've got us surrounded? Good. Now we can fire in any direction, those bastards wont get away this time

They blew through red lights, weaving through traffic, etc. Traffic unit of course stopped trying to catch up and just drove in their direction to see what he would find..

One idiot was on a hyaboosa (SP?) and of course, was running A LOT faster than the other one.

Well, about two miles from my house on a major U.S. Hwy, the one on the hyaboosa opened up the throttle and left the other one in the dust. A Chevy Avalanche pulled out across the Highway.. Witness statements, crash evidence, etc, placed the hyaboosa at about 160mph when he T-Boned the Avalanche. Knocked the Avalanche into the southbound lanes from the northbound lanes. And the Bike rider's head exploded inside of his helmet. What was left of his helmet and head rolled down the road along with other body parts.

He was the only one hurt. Other bike rider was charged with vehicular manslaughter I believe. Driver of the avalanche was fine, but arrested for driving with no valid Driver's License.

Some of the rider's are just plain idiots...
And, that is your basic sport bike riding moron's biggest danger-encountering another moron.

They were building a new freeway through the city back in the late 70's. It was nearly completed when about 3 in the morning, some moron with his chubby girl friend on the back, took off when I went to stop him. He went around a barrier and hit the new freeway. I knew there was a bunch of equipment scattered around so I just followed him driving slower.

Sure as hell, he hit one of those big pavement cutting machines. I could have put his bike in a wash tub, his head was taken off and his girl friend was literally cut in half at the waist. Her upper and lower parts were about 20 ft apart.

Even though the freeway wasn't open, it was OSP's jurisdiction so I called them to see if they wanted to take it. The trooper showed up with a young female trainee who immediately lost her cookies when she saw it. It ain't all sunglasses and autographs!

I think that depends on what Georgia’s helmet laws are. ;)

Back when I was dispatching, I had a motorcycle chase while working Cobb Zone 3 on 75 SB. Another dispatcher called Atlanta for me to give them the heads up that we were involved in a pursuit heading into their jurisdiction. They declined to join in the pursuit, but did give out the description and details to their units.

Long story short, Cobb called the pursuit off due to weather and traffic volume. Half an hour later, I get a call from Atlanta advising me that one of their unmarked units just happened to "pull out into traffic and got hit by a speeding motorcyle that fit our description. ;)

Personally, in 10 years in Georgia, I've only seen an Atlanta PD unit on 75 twice.

I see HERO all the time, but they've got a stick up their rears when it comes to Cobb/Marietta PD. Can't tell you how many times I'd be dispatching Marietta and have an accident or two on 75, only to have a stranded motorist or another accident occur just down the interstate from the Officers. They'd ask us to check with HERO to see if they could send a unit. The answer was always "no", even though, on several occasions, there would be two units parked in eye sight of the Marietta Officers.

That's in no way a slight against any HERO Units/Drivers. I highly doubt their dispatchers even inquired with them. In my experience, the DOT Dispatchers were usually rude, arrogant, and barely spoke understanable ebonics. I once got chewed out by one for calling to notify that Cobb was shutting down all lanes on 75 SB and NB due to a HAZMAT incident. Forgive me for following State law and notifying DOT as I'm required...

I call DOT all the time in NYC, to tell them about traffic lights that are burnt out, not functioning properly, out of sync, or whatever else I may need them for. They're always nice.

I'm a concerned citizen. Is there anything I can do to get sport bikes into the hands of more individuals like these?

We can call it the "Dirtbikes for Dirtbags" campaign.

To start we'll just put a bicycle lock on this one here, turn around and . . . there we go, he's off and running!
