    My first ride along!!!!!

I was going to wait to post when I had more info but I am too excited to keep it in!!

I am going on a ride along with the East Hartford PD!!!! I got the waiver in the mail today and as soon as I send it back (like tomorrow) I can contact the Patrol Lt. in Charge and decide what shift and for how long!!

I have already perused the threads about ride alongs so I wont ask any silly questions. I am aware that I am just an observer and will not stick my nose where it doesn't belong. Having worked in research for 4 years I am an excellent people watcher! And my waiver tells me what I can't wear, guess I will be wearing my business casual work attire. However, helpful tips will be beneficial.

I can not wait! I will certainly keep everyone posted. :D

Sadly, more and more departments seem to be turning away from ride-alongs, at least in my area. I know my department won't do them just because of liability issues. It is a shame, really.

Good luck pafindr with that and enjoy the ride along Jennifer. They only advice I would give you is soak it all in, try not to laugh when someone stupid says something that comes naturally him/her, and (despite the movies) a door is not a source of cover. Use the engine block or, if you must, the door jam.

Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

I'm sorry. That's against my department's rules and regulations. I cannot officially encourage or promote that.

Wear something you can run in. No heels. Hair up, off the collar. When doing your hair, remember to make it where it is hardest to be grabbed and used to drag you around. Most go with a tight bun. Ears open, mouth closed, unless being asked questions. Most importantly, go with the attitude that you are going home safely (Running, Biting, scratching, gouging, kicking, punching, spitting) are all tactics on the table.

    Lastly, have fun. :D

I have always been told by my explorer advisor; "there is NO such things as a FAIR street fight" you do what you have to, to go home at night. I was also told on my first ride-along "Here is the AR-15 release, if I get shot, you better be throwing rounds down range." My first ride was with my uncle and I believe he was joking but, I never have found out if he was or not, every time I ask him if he was or not he doesn't answer and changes the subject.

You know who I train with, I can bit, kick, eye jab, palm to the face and throat, grab the throat, and eye gouge if need be. Those are my slaps and captures!
Hair up? My hair won’t stay in a bun and I have no idea how to make it stay. Pony tail just screams grab me, luckily I know what to do if that happens though!! Acc to the waiver I signed, here is the "dress code"
All clothing must be neat and clean in appearance.
The following clothing items are prohibited for wear during the ride along program:
    t-shirts
    sweat shirts
    running clothes
    shorts
    sandals
baseball caps and other types of headgear

I faxed the waiver back today and I just need to wait for the background check to go through. I was asked what day and shift and I asked for 2nd or 3rd shift, Friday pref. since I have to be at work at 6 am during the week.

I would sugest Jeans, polo shirt, & running shoes. Not great but a pony tail would be best.

What kind of art do you study?

Remember, it's tradition on your first ride-along to buy the officer dinner. :D
