    Police Academy/Graduation Pics Thread...

I was going through my treasured papers from the Cincinnati Police Academy and found a few pics of our Recruit Class from 2004. Anyway, post academy/graduation pics here if able.

I'll start...this was "Badge Day" (a few days prior to our swearing in/graduation) where we were presented our badges by the Chief. This is just the male portion of the class, obviously. The females had their own pic. We graduated a class of 30.

    Where's CincyCop? :D

    Cincy,

Just curious as to why you only worked a few years on the force. Based on your pics throughout the site, you seemed to have enjoyed yourself on the job. Did you just miss flying?

    CelticSmackdown,

I only worked for a few years (2.5 years) at CPD because I returned to flying (from a 5 year furlough due to 9-11-01). I was furloughed from Delta Airlines in late 2001 as a new hire pilot...I was only there 8 months prior to furlough. While on furlough I decided to pursue something that I have always wanted to do...to become a Police Officer...and to start a new career that was (much) less likely to lay me off. I did enjoy the new career as a Police Officer (especially when I got a partner) but I did miss flying. I somewhat researched becoming a LEO pilot (I'm a former military helo pilot) but what a tough arena to get into...especially if your department doesn't have any aircraft. LOL! Anyway, my recall number came up at Delta and I needed to make a decision (which was not an easy decision)...so I decided to return to flying.

Cool. I lived in Cincinnati for four years while my dad was doing his post-doc work at UC. We lived in the Mount Washington area right off of the parkway (talk about a real hit and miss neighborhood). I was lucky enough to see the last remnants of the Big Red Machine before Johnny Bench retired.

My uncle is a former Army helo/fixed-wing pilot who flies for Comair. It's an interesting job for him because he's a retired attorney who just enjoys flying. So, he listens to his FOs complain about paying their dues while he enjoys the view and is happy to be where he is.

    Small world.

Move out here and join LAPD! :D After about 5 years in Patrol you could apply for a TFO (Tactical Flight Observer) position and be in a helo again. After some time as a TFO you can become a Pilot......I'm sure you more than meet the requirements. As far as I know we have the largest fleet of "airships" amongst municipal PD's (I think only CBP has more overall).

Small world indeed! I was on patrol in the Mt. Washington beat (District 2, Beat 4) for a time as a "skipper" prior to being permanently assigned to Beat 2. Also, I may have flown with your uncle since I flew for Comair from 1994 to 2001 to build fixed wing experience. I flew with quite a number of fellow military rotorheads while there...we sort of had our own unofficial rotorhead club.

Stewie, believe me, I called an LAPD recruiter and he stated the same thing you did above. Even if I was fortunate enough to finally land a helo pilot slot with LAPD (or even get hired on as a PO), my wife was not too keen about moving to LA.
