Why does it take so long????

For some drivers to find their insurance? Had a stop the other day on one of the Interstates here in my county, and it was about 95 degrees with humidity through the roof and I am trying to give this guy driving a Cadillac of all things a chance to find his insurance.

To make matters worse, my damn hat blew off(luckily into the bar ditch) and sweat ran into my eyes. :D

True post but I hope you find the humor in it.

Not sure if you're joking or not, Darin, but no, I haven't been reading up on this poster (nor do I make any claims to read every post on RP). My question to the original poster still stands, however. If you're a LEO, shoot me a PM and I'll help you get verified.

Most people throw their insurance info and registration in their car and never really expect to get stopped and have to retrieve it. And after some time, the stuff gets mixed in with all the other junk in the glove box. Getting stopped and needing is generally the furtherest from the average citizens mind. They just carry it because they're supposed to.

I keep mine handy in a little compartment on the visor. My wife's is buried somewhere with the 20 lbs of junk she carries in glove box.......
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

When I had a driver I woudl give them a reasobale amount of time to produce documents. If they couldn't find the insurance card, I would ask who was the carrier and verify it on the MDT. In NY, DMV gets insurance company cancellations weekly so the MDT is actually up to date more than the paper cards. I would let the slide then. But if they did not know the carrier or were not polite, I wrote them for such. They could later take 10 minutes to find it on their own time and show it to the judge and have it dismissed.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

JoeyD....NY does it right!! I love the fact that NY has the Ins info on the plate lookup. We have frequent traffic from NY residents and it's great to be able to verify that on the MDT.

NJ, however, can't seem to get that straight, so as of now, not able to verify Ins vVa MDT. I give a reasonable amount of time to find it, if not, they get a summons and can bring the Ins Card to court with them IF they find it later.
In god we trust, all others we run NCIC.

Not only do you get the company name & insurance code, but you can also get the policy number, at least in NY, by running it a different way.
