    Some people....

I got a call from our neighbouring state's radio room.

They had a solo officer just on our side of the border had stopped a car and the two females were a bit suspicious. The plates and rego label on the car looked odd too.

Their own back-up was some way away and they requested we send a car to back him up.

Well in two minutes we had 3 cars there and they got 2 of their own. I am guessing the two girls were realising about then that they were in the dark doo doo.

Well a few enquiries made and it turns out that last Sept one of the females had hired the 2007 Toyota Corolla from Hertz. She then rang them to report the car stolen, and reported it to the Police (in the neighbouring state). She as then decided to keep driving the car and just sort of forgot to return it.

The car was registered in our state and reported stolen in their state. Also because it was a brand new car, it would not have stood out as an obvious car to check. Having said that our registration system sucks to in that on our system it did not show up stolen. On our Police system it did not come up stolen either because it was reported in the other state. I would assume she mainly drives in our state and that is why she has not come to our attention as yet. However the registration just ran out - I guess Hertz didn't bother register it, given that it was stolen and all.

We now have the car, and she is in the lock up.

The nerve of some people to think they can just drive around for 8 months in a stolen car!!!

BTW, we worked out she owes Hertz about $9300.00 in rental charges. I hope they sue her for that, but I doubt it. :D

    Haha, nice!

More rental agency's need to invest in GPS for all their vehicles in my opinion.
Crap like that would still happen, but your average "Jane Doe" isn't going to know how to disable it.

I don't know about the ACT, but we get NSW, SA, WA and QLD stolen cars come up as stolen. Not TAS though and don't know about NT. Typical FedPol  :D

Well, she kinda did though, right? :D Wonder how many times she was checked while it was registered.
    .

If you rob a gas station, you're only going to get about $100, but I get to see a K9 dog use your arm as a chew toy. For all I care you can keep the $100.

Our rego system is crap!!! We can access NEVDIS for interstate checks, but the car being ACT Rego we would have done any checks under the ACT Reg site. It is a website - on the net!!!! not a dept system or anything like that!!!

Every night between about midnight and 0100 hrs it goes down and lucky for us we have a member that has access to Crimtrac. Absolute ridiculous system and as useless as tits on a bull:mad:
