In Texas peace officers are not exempt. Neither are USBP agents as I have jury duty next Tuesday.

Here alot depends on which court you're called too. I've seen LEO's show up in uniform and get dismissed and I've seen another Judge ask an officer why he was in uniform, the judge then gave the officer 20 minutes to go home change and get back to his court in civies.

I'm exempt because I'm a student ;) But I still have to show up.

I check the "no thanks, I'm a police officer" box, send it in, and don't hear another word about it. Been summonsed twice in 5 years.

They've got us surrounded? Good. Now we can fire in any direction, those bastards wont get away this time

I have to give my $20 a day back to the city but they are paying me for it and my work hours are deviated. All of my court cases now have to be continued. The way I see it is I'll be home every night for 2 weeks for dinner and time with the fam. They obviously won't put me on a criminal trial so we'll see. Any good suggestions on a book to take with me?

About a year ago, I got a jury summons, moned and groaned about it, but assumed that it would be a no-brainer if I had to appear. Well, I did, in fact, have to show up...and I did get put in the jury panel...all the while, thinking when i got voir dired by the attornies, i'd get to go home... The judge knew me, the DA knew me, the defense attornies knew me... I was questioned extensively about my present occupation, and my former occupation....bottom line - I wound up as jury foreman in a murder trial...it lasted about 3 weeks. I still can't believe they let me sit on that jury!!!

LOL! That seems like an odd choice for the defense atty's to make.

My guess is that the defense attorneys ran out of challenges. In my state each side could get rid of up to six jurors each, but to get rid of anyone beyond that you would have to show actual cause and the juror's occupation is not considered a reason to remove them. Either that or the defense lawyers had completely lost their minds.;):D
