I read about this in my local newspaper today. It was started back in 1988 in Philadelphia. It symbolizes officers killed on duty and also shows support of current LEO.
The police department encourages that you use blue Christmas lights or a blue light of some type to show your support through the holiday season. I went today and got a blue light for front porch.
