Speed might not kill, but it certainly hurts the wallet...

This used to be a Lotus....

If you rob a gas station, you're only going to get about $100, but I get to see a K9 dog use your arm as a chew toy. For all I care you can keep the $100.

No major injuries, amazingly enough, unless you count the fact that Mr high-performance-car-low-performance-driver is NOT insured.

    More than my first house.

Around $150,000+ I'm told. The guy was more concerned about his car than the gaping hole in his head at the time.

About 80 metres of thick black skid marks down the road too.

    HAHA!

When i was in SA, we had some loser that bought a Ferrari 360 Modena, brand new, uninisured...3 days and it was written off. No injuries but one really expensive coffee table. :D

The Lotus looks like it should be okay though. A bit of duct tape on the fibreglass and a polish and back to new in no time! :p

If it can't be fixed with duct tape, it can't be fixed!

    And yes Jakelock, NOT insured.

Did you cite him for failure to carry insurance?

Not 100% sure of Wombat's area but in most states (and I am sure it is the same in Victoria) your vehicle registration has compulsory insurance attached, but this only covers you if you hurt someone else (basically) and does not cover to replace your own car. That sort of insurance is not compulsory so if you wreck your own car or it is stolen and you do not have personal insurance on it, then too bad, so sad.

This guy, provided the car was registered, wouldn't have been committing an offence related to insurance, but he would have been out of pocket for the cost of his car.

^^What he said. The insurance you must have is covered in your annual registration fee. Anything beyond that is not compulsory. The car was registered.

No. Just the driving related offences.

However, it's not unheard of for a chap to be charged with criminal damage if he deliberately melts a hole in the ground whilst doing a burnout.

Doesn't apply to this guy though.
