I am hesitant to post in this thread because
A. I am not a cop
And
B. I hate to MMQB.
I really want to know why one of those Cops didn't put a bullet in that mans head.
In my world, deadly force is met with deadly force, and trying to take a Cops gun should be met with instant death.
My .02 cents and worth every penny.

Well, I can't speak for the cops present but I'd say that probably the main reason he didn't get shot is that there was a COURT ROOM FULL OF FRIGGING PEOPLE!! We don't operate like the wild west movies there chief, when you have a guy going for a gun and the cop is all wrangled up in a struggle and the room is full of people you have to be a little more careful elst you end up killing the cop or others in the area.
Hockey,
That guy SOOOO looks like JackAzzz Kilpatfuch! Maybe we'll be lucky and HE'LL go to jail and try to grab a gun in the process. I know a lot of Detroit cops that won't care how many people are in the court room at that point, they all be a shootin! :D

Thanks for the post, it really puts how crucial situational awareness is, and being able to react to things instantly.
I'll be honest, I think that the primary reason he wasn't shot was the CNN factor. I think if there weren't camera's in there that would replay over and over a gun put to the suspect's head and fired - that it would have done.
I believe the secondary reason was the people in the courtroom.
Just my 2.

Just to make all your jaws drop....
we are not permitted to carry in court at all. When I was in my last town, a small country place, we only had court once a month. Admittedly it was only for minor matters, but the Courts Sheriffs were unarmed and we wore our belts into the court but no guns, unless we were to give evidence and then it is no belt as well. Oh and did I mention no metal detectors other than the Sheriff had a wand.
The bigger courts in the major town next to ours, and in the state capital, had metal detetcors, but only after some moron went into the state capital court and jumped the bench taking the stenographer hostage at knife point.
I attended court and had to go and lock my gun belt up in a secure area.
In my current town, our nation's capital, there are no security checks into court, no metal detectors, nothing....and we have to lock our guns away in a secure area.
Now I can go to do a talk at a Primary School or walk through a crowded shopping area, or down the local street with a gun and belt, but I can not wear it to a location where it is not only presumed, but expected, that all our local sh1tbags will be on any given day.
FREAKING NUTS!!!

Up until 2002 officers here weren't allowed to carry into the courthouse. Thank god they changed that rule. Now uniformed officers can carry. Officers wearing suits (which is up to the officer for court, uniform or suit) cannot carry.
