    Question NYPD Ride-a-long question

In this thread here, poster is talking about a RAL with NYPD.

ROS posted the NYC city link with the information about a RAL.

    Civilian Observer Ride-Along Program

The Civilian Observer Ride Along Program provides the public with an opportunity to observe police officers on patrol. Members of the public ride with officers in a patrol car for approximately two hours, witnessing first hand what a police officer on patrol encounters during a tour of duty. The program is open to anyone with valid photo identification over the age of eighteen. This past year 1,657 local community members, university students, law enforcement officials, and visitors from the United States and abroad experienced what it takes to patrol with New York’s Finest.

Why only two hours? I mean what can that really show? Is there a lot of people who ride with NYPD? Safety? Made me curious, why only 2 hours.

Two hours gives the officer the leeway to give the RAL the boot... ;)

The job is stressful enough and having to be PC for 2 hours is hard enough. I always let the LEOS do the full day if they wanted. The liberal CCRB hires and future ADA's were always subjected to running hot to every call! Real comfortable in the back of a caged Impala! They usually were car sick in an hour and couldn't wait to leave! :D
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

As joey said, it is not one of the best things to have a stranger who isn't a cop in your car watching whatever you do. I had a student for an observer years ago who tried to talk into my words while on a call. This was the last thing he did while his ride along and I neverever will take one more with me, except a cop from another country.

Evenhand (Cop Movie): You can't be everybody's friend

There are two things I'm good in, the second is arresting people

I'm looking for Drug/Narcotic Unit patches together with DUI/DWI unit patches for a frame in our Anti-Drug-Team bureau

Also looking for Massachusetts Police and US Capitol City PD patches now!

When I was doing my internship, this kid that was was riding with a medic unit, kept trying to write all the patient information and license plate info down on a "daily" on his clip board. When the Deputy told him not to, he said I can if I want, my Dad wants to know what we do and who we stop.

That ended pretty quick for him
