Taser Taser

I've been a police officer in N.C. for 6-7 months now with a medium sized department (just haven't gotten registered yet). I got out of FTO and been on my own for about 3 months, yesterday was taser day. I was nervous about this for the last week. First we have to go through the class part which is 8 hrs long. The whole time during class, they were showing us videos of people getting tased. After the class is over, it's time! I wanted to be the first one to get it done so I could get it over with. The last thing I wanted was to see someone else get shocked and have to wait my turn. Finally I step up to the plate and they clipped me, they tell me to say when i'm ready. "I'm ready"...."TASER TASER" then holy sh!t!!!! That was the worst 5 seconds of my life!!! Just glad it's over, for those who haven't had it done it feels like a train hitting you in the back and dragging you.

Actually, I'd take the pepper spray. Fortunately I've never had either, but I don't even like touching a metal doorknob in an office if I think it's going to shock me. :rolleyes:

A statement like that makes it obvious you've never been OC'ed.;) As someone who's gone through it twice, I'd sooner take a tazer while being kicked in the goods than have OC sprayed at me again.

I've been both sprayed and Tased, and I'll swim laps in a pool of OC before I let them shoot me with that Taser again. That thing is hell on earth.

I have had the opportunity to benefit from multiple OC, CS, and Taser exposures. Any day of the week, I would prefer the former, rather than the latter.

I don't have access to Taser yet, but I am informed that we don't "ride the lightning" during training. I wonder why you chaps have to? Do they practice punching you in the face too?

Actually, we had a DT instructor back in police academy who would randomly walk down the lines of trainees who were performing DT techniques, and either smack them or put them in some sort of choke hold and say, "use techniques and get out of this." I can understand developing techniques that simulate reality, and understand that on the street sucker punches are fair game with the badguys, but that dude was an a$$.

Damn right. Then they make us practice on one another.

For fellows who don't wish to be punched in the face, the US offers a wide range of alternative pursuits. Earning a post-graduate degree in Women's Studies and pouring coffee at Starbucks are two examples just off the top of my head.

I'll be another one to say that I would much rather get tased again, rather than sprayed with O.C.

Five seconds of "stop this or I think I'm going to die" is better than 1-2 hours of my eyeballs falling out of my head and a face that feels like its 900 degrees...
