    "The Academy" on Hulu.com

Hulu.com is a video service that has a good deal of great TV shows and movies, totally free to sign up and view. They happen to have the police academy reality type show on there named "The Academy":

    http://www.hulu.com/the-academy

All 11 shows from season 1 for free to watch and in good quality. I watched them all in about a week's time and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was wondering if anyone had any input as to it's legitimacy as far as how police academy really is. Everyone on the show seemed top notch, well, besides a few recruits ;)

Hope this is ok to post in this forums.

That is my department's recruit training bureau. Yes, it is accurate, but a lot of details are left out. Even with it being reality TV, reality is relative to each individual in that class not just the ones displayed.

There is a second season due out on May 24th.

For more information into season 2, I have already created another thread link posted Here

Fantastic, thank you for the info. I figured there was a bit either left out or glorified for TV, but I really enjoyed the show and especially the teaching that went on and the methods. Very interesting show for anyone interested in LEO I thought.

I'm off to read your other post now, thank you again.

    BJJVad,

I just watched the graduation episode so I haven't watched the series, do you mind answering two quick questions for me?:

    1. What is the black uniform some are in? Are those going to the Corrections area of the LASD?

    2. Are military ribbons permitted on the LASD uniform? It seemed so since one of the cadets placed it on for graduation, and one of the lead drill-instructors appeared to have naval ribbons.

I believe my department uses military ribbons to represent some medals awarded by the department, but it didn't seem like the case here because of the cadet.

I think the recruits in the dark uniform are recruits for Torrance PD that train along LASD recruits. As far as #2, I dunno.

The black uniforms are outside of LASD PD's that send their recruits to our academy for training. POST (Police Officers Standards Training) is state controlled and mandated so no matter where you attend a State approved LE academy in CA, you meet minimum requirements to be hired as a LEO.
Corrections in LASD is a possible assignment upon graduation. We do not have a seperate corrections deputy career field. It is a job within the department that is manned by deputies. There are Corrections Assistants that are civilians who work in the jail system. They are not LEO's but can supervise inmates when assigned to that set of tasks.

Military earned ribbons are permitted for wear on the class "A" uniform only during ceremonies and events (i.e. participant in a parade...etc...) that permit the wear of such ribbons/medals.

I believe my department uses military ribbons to represent some medals awarded by the department, but it didn't seem like the case here because of the cadet.
    Hope I answered your questions?

I can't wait to see Dep. Miley get motivational with the next class!!:D

Definitely, thanks. That's pretty cool you can wear military earned ribbons. I imagine some of the guys who come there after retiring have quite a "pocket full." Thanks for the information.

P.S. Normal1, I think you are right about the Torrance PD, the patch/badge looks the same - thanks.
