I seen a local bail bonds agency was hiring for a few things, and figured it would be a different side of things so I put in for it. Well I got a call today and got called in and its a decent company it seems. One of those small, family owned companies ran out of a large house in downtown across from the jail.
Anyway its for the position of Underwriter. She explained, and I guess the position is you answer phones, fill out the bond application form, run them through OTIS (Michigans Offender Tracking Information System), do a criminal background check to see their history, and a few other things, computer related. She asked me if I'm familiar at all in tracking, locating property/persons, and I said yeah. So I guess I'll talk to the owner Wednesday when I go back in to start.
She asked me questions like, would it/does it bother me to be in downtown Flint at night? Alone She said some nights (till like 9 or 10pm depending on the hours) I'll be alone, but the owner lives upstairs and can help with a quick phone call. Also asked, would I be scared to be around criminals, and their families, because some people are. Then she caught herself and said, well if you were, you wouldn't be going to school for this field, and pretty much stopped asking questions after ;)
Anyway, the pay is alright, the hours are pretty much unlimited, depending on business, but its guaranteed at least 35 per week. Paid twice a month which is fine.
I asked if I could also do recovery work too, and she said I'd have to talk with the owner, he usually requires 10 people, and he puts on a small academy
Also asked on actually being the Bail Bondsman and she said the owner really doesn't like people to do underwriter and the bondsman because you could save all the good bonds for yourself that way, so I understand where thats coming from.
ANYWAY, enough rambling on, has anyone done work in this field? I assume you meet all types of people, and their families. So I guess it would be good experience dealing with people. Any suggestions? For bail bonds? Or Underwriter?
I know, its helping criminals get out of jail, when I'd like to see most sit in jail, but its a job. Something I've really needed.
I'll edit to say, that I feel like I have no clue what I'm getting myself into, except just try it out and see how it goes
