D.A.R.E, is this program still up and running in your state?

I am from the state of Kentucky. When I was in junior high back in the early eighties, the D.A.R.E. program was really a big deal. As a matter of fact our D.A.R.E. officer was such a inspiration to me. My sister was into drugs heavilly and he always took the time to always reinforce the many reasons why I should not follow her path. He stayed in contact with me on and off through out high school. I only wish I could remember his name, to come back and thank him. Anyway, it appeared that this program helped so many kids stay clear of drugs and kept them on the right track. After the early 90's this program has slowly swindled down. Some schools have them and some do not. My daughter's school is one that does not. My son's are in high school and they say they constantly get offered drugs almost on a daily basis. I was just thinking it is a shame that this program still is not as hugh as it once was. So many of our youth today could benefit from it. I would love to see it back, as I know politics has a hugh part of it. In my Criminology book in school, statistics say, "it just isn't helping". I simply don't under stand that. I was just wondering how many other states still have this program in full force?

Biggest local push is the newer G.R.E.A.T program, Gang resistance, education, and training. DARE has gone the way of 'bootcamps' mostly around here. Both, at least in this state, have proven to be largely ineffective in their stated goals.
GeorgiaCarry.org is an influential civil rights organization committed to not resting until the State of Georgia ceases all infringements upon the people's natural right to keep and bear arms that is protected by both the constitutions of Georgia and the USA. It's members include prominent legislators, captains of industry, members of the armed forces, police officers, parents, academics, lawyers, and citizens from all walks of life.

I'm "cheating" that url in (since I don't have 15 posts), so you'll have to cut & paste it to look at it.

Oh man, I remember the D.A.R.E. stickers in the 80's were all over the Police cars, and in the 90's the big push was on domestic violence if I remember correctly.

And while on the subject do you recall M.A.D.D. ?

We're having budget issues and our administration can't justify the expense of sending someone to DARE school if I remember correctly.

    SROs run DARE here.

MADD used to be a great program till they became radicals.

I just finished DARE training and I really believe the program is very worthwhile.

DARE logos are still on the start up screens on some vintage arcade systems.
BTW I had to take traffic school that day when I was introduced to M.A.D.D. I really felt for that mother who lost her kids

    Its in suspended limbo here.

We had a real dedicated DARE officer.
He got hired away from us by one the Kansas DARE officals
    to work for another dept.
Then the state rep ran off with his wife and he lost his job.
The state rep guy still is part of the DARE program, but he
is chief of police at another dept.

Pretty sad state of affairs (pun intended)
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL

We switched from DARE to GREAT a few years ago.

This doesn't mean anything but it seems every dope head I arrest ask if Officer XXXXX is still with the dept because he was their DARE teacher. And I know it's not the progrmas fault.
