Ohhhhkayyyyyy are all DEA Agents this stupid?

So I am watching DEA on Spike and one of the agents is talking about the different kinds of weapons they get off of bad guys.

The following are direct quotes. I swear.

"The AK 47s we are taking off the streets are loaded with a special teflon coated bullet that will go through anything."

"The Mac 10 is a high powered machine gun."

And more of the same. Why is the DEA letting these people open their mouth on TV?

I didn't see the latest episode, but in the very first one the long-haired dude admitted he didn't like talking about the guns because he wasn't a gun guy and didn't really know much about them.

    Except how to use them...hopefully...

I need to apologize. I should have said ignorant, not stupid.

Ignorance can be fixed, stupid is forever.

I did notice they openly talked about tactics that could jeopardize informants or UC's.

Last I heard he received money for his troubles. Man, everybody will remember this guy for the wrong reasons. From what I've gathered he was an outstanding agent, just made a dumb mistake forever captured on video... and funny mistake at that. I hope the best for him. I mean he did make a mistake but that video should not have been released. Than again, he made it worst by going on national TV... to be honest, the video was so unclear if ole dude would have shaved his hair I wouldn't be able to point him out in a line-up.

Wish him the best? Why? I just think it is silly to ask for money because you are embarrassed about what you did? It would be altogether different i fthe video was HIS property, but it wasn't!

Besides, having an unintentional discharge is not a "mistake" it's stupidity and carelessness! There is NO excuse for having one!

What was his finger doing anywhere near the trigger? AD's are the result of carelessness. Should have kept his "booger-hook off the bang switch."

You didn't hear when they asked the one with a shotgun what he was carrying? He said, "Well, I'm not really a gun guy, but they tell me it's a twelve gauge shotgun." :D

To 90 percent of the agents, a gun is just a tool, and asking them to tell you about it, is like asking them to tell you about the CPU in their laptop, or about the engine in their G-car, or what frequency their radio transmits on. While all of those things are interesting to buffs, they are not really necessary to use the items. You don't really need to know if a guy is pointing a MAC-11, or a MAC -10, at you, to know that it's basically the same problem. There are so many other things that you do have to know a lot about to do the job.

Most of the agents who know a lot about guns, knew a lot about guns before they became agents, not because they are agents (we had a former Special Forces NCO as a TFO whose MOS was commo who could tell you everything there was to know about satellite communications and fire support, but didn't really seem to know any more about guns than I did).

My old partner, after being in a shootout with a meth dealer, was questioned because the investigating agents could only find eight shell casings, with four remaining rounds in his gun (Glock 22) at the end of the shootout. Investigators were befuddled until he admitted that when loading the gun, he only put rounds into the magazine until his thumb started to hurt. And, eight rounds did the job for him that day. Lots of agents, and officers, never have fired a gun until they come on the job.

As to why they are having a TV show at all, much less not scripting it any better, I don't know. They are not really giving up the farm, but I think covert investigations really ought to stay covert. But, imagine somebody following you around though, and you actually saying the stuff you say every day to people, and putting it out on a TV show. A lot of what I say, I would not want on national TV.

The worst part is, I think having the cameras around is doing the same thing it does to officers on COPS, making them do and say stupid stuff because they are more worried about how they look on TV than doing what they know they should be doing and saying.

Oh hell, I understand all that. I just think that putting incorrect information out as the truth is kinda dishonest, and to be honest, dirty.
